WELLBEING AND INCLUSION

Sportsmanship

As educators, we understand the importance of teaching our students not only academic skills but also valuable life lessons. One such lesson is the concept of being a good sport when playing games with friends.

Good sportsmanship is an essential social-emotional skill that helps students develop positive relationships with their peers. When playing games, it is crucial for students to understand that the primary goal is to have fun and ensure everyone enjoys the experience.

I have included a visual that can help guide a conversation about being a good sport. After your child has had the opportunity to practice these skills, you might like to ask them

some of the following questions to reflect on

their experience and set a goal for next time.

Reflective Questions

  • How did you feel when you showed good sportsmanship during the game?
  • Was anything tricky while trying to be a good sport?
  • Can you think of other times that you could be a good sport?
  • Why is it important to be a good sport?
  • What is a goal you could set for next time to help you be an even better sport?
