A Busy Term for Transition and Community Engagement
It's been a very busy term for Transition and Community Engagement at Marian College, with a number of exciting events bringing students, families, and teachers together. From Matilda Matinee Performances to Discovery Day, AAS Testing, and Year 7 interviews, the College has been buzzing with activity.
Matilda Matinee Performances
On Wednesday, 4 September, and Thursday, 5 September, the College welcomed primary feeder schools St James the Apostle, St Paul’s, St Peter’s, St Theresa's, and St Bernadette’s for special matinee performances of Matilda Jr. The primary students, especially those in Grades 3 and 4 who recently read the novel Matilda in class, were thrilled about the performance. On Thursday, the audience was treated to a special Q&A session with the cast after the show. The feedback from the schools was overwhelmingly positive, with students and teachers alike inspired by the amazing talent of our students and staff and appreciative of the College’s invitation and hospitality. We look forward to welcoming more of our primary feeder schools to future events at the College.
Discovery Day with St Paul’s Primary School
On Friday, 13 August, the College hosted a highly anticipated Discovery Day for St Paul’s Primary School students. Both students and teachers had a fantastic time exploring different subjects. In Science, students conducted fun experiments, while in Woodwork, they designed and created scrap wood sculptures. Over in Food Technology, chocolate balls were a sweet highlight. Students also enjoyed time in the Resource Centre, browsing the displays and reading books. Meanwhile, the Primary teachers appreciated a well-deserved coffee break at the VCafé.
Year 7 2025 AAS Testing
On Saturday, 14 September, Grade 6 students from 49 primary schools arrived early at the College for AAS (Academic Achievement Testing). Before the testing began, students gathered in the Language Centre, chatting about their primary schools, favorite songs, movies, and hobbies. They then headed to the Agnes Lyng building to sit for their tests in reading, writing and numeracy. A mid-test break featuring muffins and primas provided a welcome refresh. These tests play a crucial role in helping the College gather data to better understand and meet the educational needs of each student.
Year 7 2026 Interviews
The Year 7 2026 interviews took place on Tuesday, 10 September, and Monday, 16 September, in the Louise Cleary Building. It was an exciting opportunity to meet prospective students and their families, learning about their hobbies, interests, educational needs, and hopes for the future. Offer letters for Year 7 2026 will be sent to families on Friday, 18 October. Limited places are available for Year 7 2026, so we encourage any families that have not yet submitted an application to do so.
As the term draws to a close, we reflect on the energy and excitement that filled the College with each event. From inspiring performances and educational experiences to important assessments and interviews, it’s clear that our school community remains engaged and vibrant. We look forward to continuing this momentum in the coming term, welcoming even more opportunities to connect with students and families.
