From the Principal

With the end of Term 3 upon us and being one of the busiest Terms this year, this is an excellent opportunity to reflect on all the fantastic events, programs and learning experiences at Marian and to recognise the immense efforts that have been made to ensure a successful Term.

Themed Weeks

Term 3 provided a myriad of opportunities through various themed weeks across a multitude of subjects.

We celebrated Health and PE week, highlighting the importance of both physical and mental health, with our HPE team facilitating health focused activities - with the Blender Bikes being a favourite

Math week brought about plenty of fun, culminating in a staff v student Numbers Countdown Competition, with students proving too good on the day, crowned champions!

Science Week was next, with the theme of, Species Survival - More than just sustainability. The theme aimed to highlight the importance of science and innovation in ensuring the survival of different species in an ever-changing world.

Book week was full of excitement and wonder, with our Resource Centre staff working hard bringing the theme of Reading is Magic to life, with fantastic guest speakers, an extremely impressive Book Parade for our Year 7 & 8 Students who dressed as their favourite book characters and a wonderful performance from Max the Magician!

Events

Too many wonderful events to count during Term 3, to talk to a few, the long-awaited production of Matilda Jnr, Father’s Day Breakfast, the subject selection expo, various discovery days for our local primary feeder schools, information evenings and more

Matilda Jnr was everything we wanted it to be and more, the talent on display was nothing short of extraordinary, I am sure all who attended can attest to the quality of the production and we take this opportunity to again recognise all the hard work and long hours that went into this behind the scenes - It was extremely exciting to have a production back at the College after a long hiatus and we are looking forward to what our performing arts team do next!

The Father’s Day Breakfast was a great success, an important day to recognise significant male figures in our Students’ lives and to celebrate them. We had over 200 in attendance and were lucky enough to host guest speaker Alex Saundry, who spoke fantastically about her career journey from AFLW through to founding her Talent Management Business - More Than Management.

The subject selection expo provided our students the opportunity to make informed decisions about their senior pathway at the College, it was great to see so many students engaged in the sessions across multiple year levels and taking the opportunity to speak to teachers about various subjects and share their career aspirations and what subjects would be most suitable to achieving that.

The Year 7 HPE Showcase was a fantastic opportunity for our Year 7 students to present to their families the exceptional work they have been doing around puberty and respectful relationships, topics that can be tricky to navigate.

There has been a great deal of achievements at the College during Term 3, but one we must highlight again is the exceptional efforts of Ruby Pearce (Year 10) and Freshta Watanyar (year 12) on winning the Spirit of Anzac Prize Competition, a state based competition of which winners will enjoy some time aboard in Europe to visit sites of historical significance to Australia’s history. Special mentions to Mr Ian Francis, who will chaperone the students on this trip.

Student leadership is highly valued at Marian College, offering both an opportunity and a responsibility for all students from Year 7 onwards. Over the past few weeks, our year 11 students have been considering the senior leadership roles, including the position of Lamp Bearers  in leading the student body in 2025. It has been a pleasure for myself and other staff members to be part of the process of selecting our 2025 senior leaders. I would like to thank and congratulate all those who have applied for their enthusiasm and dedication to our school community. Next term, we will formally acknowledge the 2024 Student Leadership Team and announce our 2025 team.

As we approach this holiday break, may we take time to rest, reflect, and reconnect with what brings us joy and hope. Let us be grateful for the support and strength we find in one another within our Marian College community. May this break be a time of renewal, and may we return refreshed, ready to continue our journey together with compassion, kindness, and grace.

"The Lord will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore." – Psalm 121:7-8
