Marian LEO's
This term, we were privileged enough to assist the Marian girls participating in the Go Girls Foundation’s 100 Kilometer Run taking place in October. The Go Girls Foundation is an organization that empowers women at risk in local communities, both in Melbourne and Regional Victoria. Specifically, they work to uplift women who have experienced domestic violence, social isolation, and homelessness, by helping them become work ready and financially independent. Go Girls have facilitated the 100 kilometer challenge in hopes of welcoming the participation of young women attending all girls’ schools across Victoria in their pursuit to raise funds and build awareness of the issue’s prevalence. In their words, “our purpose is for every woman to have a plan.” Our Marian girls have committed themselves to supporting Go Girls in achieving their purpose, having raised funds for the foundation individually, and by working in conjunction with LEOs to fundraise through our BBQs.
Thus, it is with great pride we announce our joint efforts have allowed us to raise over $1,000 for the Go Girls Foundation. We would like to acknowledge the work of Ms Tran, our Educating for Justice leader, and Mr Kennedy for his collaborative efforts as Marian’s Go Girls representative.
And, as always, we owe a big thanks to the Marian community for your continued engagement across our BBQ’s, which has continually enabled us to carry out our mission of uplifting those marginalized and underprivileged in our world. If, like LEOs, you strive to have an impact that transcends the boundaries of your local community, we urge you to consider putting your foot forward to volunteer your time at LEOs; please look out for applications being sent out next term.
So, what's next for the club?
In light of our appointment of the club’s 2025 office bearers, we ask those girls in years 7 to 9 attending Big Day Out to lend them their support in their first BBQ by purchasing a sausage. Most importantly, as with every BBQ, we ask that you take the time to understand our motive behind its undertaking; we hope to carry out our initiatives in a meaningful manner that builds awareness around the issues at hand, compelling every student to recognise the role they can play in the pursuit of social justice; with that being said, if you have a cause you feel passionately about, LEOs extends the invitation for you to voice your concerns - shoot us a message or approach us in the school yard, and we will do our part in addressing them. Otherwise, we know we can always count on you to purchase a sausage from one of our BBQ’s.
That concludes our work for the term. Thank you for listening.
