INSPIRING CURIOUS MINDS

ART SHOW

What an incredible Art Show we had last Thursday night. I know many of you agree, that this was probably our best community event to date! It was wonderful to see so many families supporting the event and joining in the fun. Our SMPPS kids are wonderful artists. There were so many amazing pieces and exquisite details that lots of families were doing a second or third loop just to enjoy the experience over and over again. The collaborative works were outstanding and created a pretty amazing bidding war!

A HUGE THANK YOU to our working party, Lou, Billie, Emily, Freya, Terena and our fabulous project manager Clare. These people worked so hard to make the event a success. And of course, our congratulations and gratitude go to the wonderful Kaila Michael. Kaila had the most beautiful vision and swept us all up in the magic. Special thanks to Art Therapist, Aliza Levi, who supported our kids to create a special installation within the show. Thank you to our teachers and ES who supported the event, along with the many families who label, baked, face painted, turned sausages, served, cleaned, set up and packed up. It certainly was a special moment for our community!

PLAY SUPPORT

Navigating social relationships and rules of games in the playground is challenging. To support our kids with this, Ms Osman is providing some targeted sessions where a range of kids will come together to share their thoughts and make proactive plans for the future. The goal of the sessions is to help students with skill development in the areas of self-management, empathy, leadership, negotiation, problem solving and team building.

The students meet with Ms Osman on Fridays to discuss social issues that may arise in the school yard, and together, come up with solutions. The students then put these solutions into practice during lunch time while being observed and guided by Ms Osman. Some of the topics covered are: compassion, kindness, empathy, game rules, fair play, winning and losing gracefully, and learning about refereeing/umpiring in different sports.

The groups are fluid and depending on the goals they set, students may attend one or several sessions. We are fortunate to have Ms Osman supporting our kids with this, given her strong relationship with the children. If you have any questions, please reach out to Ms Osman.

PREP 2024 ORIENTATION SESSIONS

Today, our 2024 Preps had their first orientation session. While there were a few nerves and hands clenched, we also had lots of smiles from excited new South Melbourne Park students trying out school for the first time. If you know of a new Prep in our zone, who has not yet enrolled, please remind the family to collect an enrolment form from the office. At the next two orientation sessions, we’ll have the second-hand uniform shop set up. If you have uniform to donate, we would appreciate your donations.
