Deputy Principal

Dear Families,

Welcome to the end of Week Five – nearly half way through the final term of the year. It has certainly been a very busy fortnight at school – lots of good things happening both in the classrooms and out and about in the community.

For families managing illness, or have recently experienced a bereavement with the loss of a loved one, please know you are very much in our thoughts and prayers.

Congratulations also to families who have recently welcomed a new addition to their families with the birth of a child. We wish you every happiness and joy at this special time.

Remembrance Day:

Remembrance Day is coming up on Saturday, 11th November. This day is when we acknowledge those who died while serving in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations. This is the anniversary of the Armistice that ended fighting in Europe in World War I.

Our Senior Student Leaders are currently selling poppies to raise money for the RSL. The cost is $2:00 a poppy. If you/your child would like to purchase a poppy this can be done at school.

We hope to have some of our Student Fire Carriers represent our school at the Remembrance Day ceremony at the Shepparton Cenotaph as well.

Swimming Program:

What a big week it has been with the swimming program taking place. This has been a first for most of the students, and for our older children, a four year gap since they last participated. A huge congratulations to all our children for the way they have participated in lessons, looked after their belongings, followed instructions, and adapted to many changes during the week. A huge thankyou also to our teachers for all their help in ensuring the week ran smoothly. I am very grateful for their support.

Finally, I’d like to say thank you to our parents and carers for helping with the program. Organising swimming gear / change of clothes / swimming bags ready for each day takes time in an already busy week. As a school, we are very grateful for this as it has made the swimming program run smoothly.

Who knows……..? The foundations for a future swimming champion or Olympian may have been started this week through our program. Most importantly, we hope the program has helped develop the childrens’ confidence and safety around water, especially as we head into the warmer months of the year.

Zooper Doopers:

The sale of Zooper Doopers will begin next week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The cost is 50c each, with a maximum of two per child. We ask children to buy zooper doopers for themselves or brothers/sisters only – not to be purchasing for friends/classmates.

Hats – Term Four:

A reminder that hats need to be worn outside in Term Four. As a part of our sunsmart policy, children are required to wear hats outside during breaks or other activities during the day. Please ensure your child’s hat is clearly named so that if it is misplaced it can be easily returned to it’s owner. Hats also need to be sunsmart and neat – not written on or torn etc. They are an important part of our school uniform. Sunscreen is supplied in all classrooms. If your child wishes to bring their own they are more than welcome to.

Thank you for your support with this.

Year 6 Polo Tops – 2024

As in previous years, an optional Polo Top for 2024 will be available for Year 6’s. The word “Year 6” will be displayed under the school logo. No names will be on the back of the shirt as this allows possible new students to be included in this shirt.

These shirts provide senior students with an aspect of the uniform to wear that enhances their status as senior students in our school community.

Cost of the Polo Tops are $37.00. These can be sampled, sized, ordered and paid for at Quality Teams, Benalla Road Shepparton (just up from the Post Office on Benalla Road). The size of the polo top matches that of the current polo shirt – this might help with ordering.

Orders will close Friday 17th November to allow for delivery approximately January. These can be picked up at Quality Teams. A message will be sent to parents to let them know when they have arrived.

Wishing everyone a safe and happy fortnight.

Kind regards.

Tony.

Crazy Hair and Sock Day

On Friday the 27th of October the Supporters of Social Justice team held Crazy Hair and Sock Day. Students could come to school with crazy hair and crazy socks and bring in a gold coin donation. The money we raised will go to the Kids Cancer Project to help children who are fighting against cancer. The purpose ofthis day was to raise awareness of children who are suffering from cancer.

In preparation for this day, we made posters with facts about cancer for everyone to read, facts like how many people are suffering from cancer and how many people have survived cancer. We drew a big kids cancer ribbon near the school playground and as each class came along, they put their gold coin donations inside the ribbon.  We raised a total of $188. We raised money by getting 2 people to collect donations from the classes and then they would read the facts about cancer. Finally they placed the money in the cancer ribbon and took a photo.
