Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden with 3/4KC

2024 has begun and this year we are kicking off the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program with 3/4KC.  Yesterday we went through all the rules of the kitchen and where to find the ingredients and cooking utensils.  The Year 3 students had a lot to take in as it was their first time in the kitchen and they all did a great job.  Each student made a placemat for themselves and for the volunteers that come to help us each week.

Next week we are looking forward to getting into the garden and giving it a much needed clean up after the long summer holidays.  Although some of our plants survived, some did not, so we now need to remove all the corn, rhubarb and silverbeet that has died off.  Although we used the time this week to make the placemats, it was good to see the students enthusiastic about next week's gardening lesson.

In the kitchen we had a delicious lunch consisting of guacamole, ricotta pastries, greek salad and zucchini carbonara.  It was so yummy and the  students and adults loved every part of it.  Many students commented on it, saying they would like to make it again at home.  All recipes are posted weekly on the class Seesaw account so keep a watch out for them.  Thank you to the three lovely ladies who came to help us yesterday.   They were Karen (Zayden’s grandmother), Jenny (Matthew’s Mum) and Melinda (Luka’s Mum). It was great to see them give up their time on the first week back. We really appreciate the help they provided the students.  If you would like to help your child in 3/4KC throughout the next six weeks, please message me via Seesaw or email me at tsiegert@smdingley.catholic.edu.au

Have a great week and happy cooking!
