Year 9 Students and Parents – Morrisby Careers

As part of the Careers and Pathways Program at Marist-Sion College, Year 9 students will participate in the Morrisby Program offered by the College. Morrisby is a digital career exploration tool which involves initial profiling of the individual to determine strengths, interests and values relating to current and future career options. It also provides access to significant career information which can be accessed and adapted across an individual’s career journey to assist with decision-making and further career development and exploration.

At Marist-Sion our Morrisby Program involves the following steps:

Step 1: An initial introductory session for students will be held at school on Tuesday 6 February, Lesson 5.

Step 2: Students complete the Morrisby Profile which is an online set of assessments and questionnaires on Wednesday 7 February. The result is an interactive web-based report which will be available the evening of Wednesday 7 February. Parents are encouraged to review and discuss this report with their child/ren.

Step 3: Students will participate in a guided reflection on their report and Morrisby on Thursday 8 February. They will also be expected to submit their Report and completed Student Reflection to Simon > Year 9 Careers.

Step 4: Students will then have an individual meeting with a member of the Careers Team to discuss their report and reflections in more detail. These will commence in March. Any parent wishing to attend this meeting is encouraged to make contact with Elly Martin ASAP so a mutually convenient time can be scheduled well in advance.

Step 5: Students will continue to have access and utilise Morrisby at points across their school and post-school life.

This program aims to help students as they make choices about their learning, post-school pathways, work and life goals. One major benefit of this program is that students receive a lifetime login – which means this valuable career resource is available to students beyond their time at Marist-Sion College.

Marist-Sion College will utilise Career Analysts (on behalf of the Morrisby Organisation) for the purposes of delivering and managing the career advisory Morrisby Profile service for all Year 9 Students.

The College will fund this program and students will use their school laptop and email.

The tool is typically robust enough to support students of all abilities, and any adjustments needed for individual students will be arranged in consultation with the Learning Support Coordinator.

Further details on Morrisby is available at https://www.careeranalysts.com.au/

Any presentations, tasks or resources relevant to the Morrisby Program will be available to the students on Simon in their subject Year 9 Careers.

Parents should note: All Year 9 students will be expected to participate in this program unless their parent/guardian responds to this email, requesting their child/ren be withdrawn.

Year 10 Students and Parents – Work Experience/Structured Workplace Learning

Research suggests young people who participate in programs like work shadowing or placement, where there is direct engagement with employers and workplaces, are more likely to experience higher wages; greater job, career and life satisfaction; and lower rates of NEET (not in education, employment or training) (OECD How youth explore, experience and think about their future).

On Monday 5 February during Lesson 5 all Year 10 students will participate in Year 10 Work Experience and SWL Introductory Session which provides information as to the details and requirements of Year 10 Work Placement.

The compulsory Year 10 Work Placement program is scheduled for 11 – 21 June 2024.

To summarise the Work Experience/SWL process, students:

  • Step 1: Collect WE or SWL Arrangement forms – spares available from Careers Office, Jericho 9
  • Step 2: ASAP find a host employer/business – lists available on Simon > Year 10 Careers.
  • Step 3: Complete Student Details, Work Placement Details (especially contact email), Employer Acknowledgement, Student Agreement and Parent Agreement/Consent Sections of the WE or SWL Arrangement forms.
  • Step 4: Complete Work Experience Travel and Accommodation form. Please note: You only need to complete the accommodation section on the reverse of the form if you are staying away from home whilst on work placement.
  • Step 5: Complete the Induction Handbook including Safe@Work General and Industry Specific Certificates (Learning time will be provided for this to be completed at school on 16 May). All Year 10 students will be required to upload a copy of their Safe@Work General Certificate, Safe@Work Industry Certificate and Induction Handbook to their Year 10 Careers subject on Simon.
  • Step 6: Once the above steps are completed, return forms (from Steps 3 and 4) to the Careers Office, Jericho 9.

Please note: If you are planning to complete placement with animals, you will also need to collect, complete and attach the Additional Working with Animals Form as part of this step. Those wanting to work in Construction will need to have obtained and provide a copy of your CIC (White Card).

  • Step 7: If your placement is approved (by Careers staff and Ms Harkin) you and your employer will be sent an email containing a copy of your completed Forms and an Employer Pack.

Placement forms (and the above steps) must be completed no later than Thursday 23 May 2024.

Students and/or parents who are seeking a summary presentation can find a 10min Video Presentation on Simon/PAM in Year 10 Careers (Class Resources).
