Visual Art News

It is always such a frantic time as we near the end of the school year – In the art room students have been busily finalising their creations and making sure all their wonderful work has been safely placed into their folios to take home.  The year 6’s have been especially working hard to complete their ‘Carnival of Venice’ inspired Masks, which they always feel proud to display and celebrate with at graduation night.  Many Year 6 students will be also be displaying their spectacular Japanese Edo Period silk paintings and Hokusai inspired ‘Great Wave’ artworks.

The last few weeks have seen Foundation students creating stunning Peacock compositions where they explored a range of painting and collage techniques and greatly enjoyed adding their own handprints to complete their work.

Year 2’s added such a wonderful creative flair to their Robot compositions and came up with some fabulous designs including Sushi Bots and Sport Bots. Although this year level like to work at a very fast pace, their ideas are most often well executed and of high quality!

Year 3’s spent many hours to complete their Dry Needle Felting artworks – the patience and diligence shown translated into such effective and well-crafted, Pete Cromer inspired imagery. They have also extended their soft pastel techniques and knowledge of landscapes to create wonderfully colourful, Ted Harrison inspired landscapes of their own.

Year 5 have continued to extend their observational drawing skills of still life objects, and really enjoyed the challenges that continuous line drawing brings. Having to learn to trust their hand to draw without checking is a difficult task, but the students stepped up to the challenge and really enjoyed the process.  Year 5 students have also continued to complete their VEXX inspired artworks where they let their imagination and selection of imagery and colour run free.

I have loved seeing the wonderful work that 5B and the year 1 and 4 students have been creating with Miss Arendze. The year 1’s Matisse inspired collages looked fabulous and their collaborative Minjung Kim inspired circle canvas is stunning! Year 4s put in such a wonderful effort to complete their Picasso inspired Cubist collages and really extended their knowledge and application of perspective, when completing their mixed-media Mexican Hot Air Balloon compositions.

So here is cheers to another completed, fun-filled year in Visual Arts! I am truly grateful the students have felt safe to explore their ideas and take risks when learning new skills in the art room. It has been an honour to have been present and part of each student’s creative journey and I would like to wish all my students and their families a wonderful holiday and new year.  What an absolute pleasure to have taught Visual Arts to the students at Ormond Primary School.

Happy Creative Days!

Love from Miss Helen Kupfer
