Performing Arts News

I am delighted to announce the Musical Productions for 2024. The Junior Production (Prep to Year 2) will be The Journey of the Noble Gnarble by Denver Casado based on the book by Daniel Errico and the Senior Production (Year 3 to Year 6) will be Disney-Pixar’s Finding Nemo Jr.

Both stories explore topics of resilience, striving to achieve goals, working together, friendship, stranger danger, problem solving,  trust and love. Both plays are set under the sea so there will be so much to explore in the world of underwater colour when the students create costumes, scenery and props. There will be wonderful opportunities to make connections across the curriculum.  Each of the plays has a large cast with many opportunities for students to shine.

We will be asking for support in gathering materials to create scenery and costumes and will need help with sewing. Information and requests for assistance will be posted in the Newsletter.  At this stage we would really like an old unwanted beach umbrella and if you have old baseball caps that are no longer needed they would be useful for costume making.

Information about auditioning for solos will be given later in the term. Students who are interested in trying for a solo part or small group part need to be members of the School Choirs. Junior choir is for years 1 & 2 students and is held after lunch on Wednesdays. Senior Choir is for years 3-6 and is after lunch on Fridays. In these sessions, audition material will be rehearsed and vocal skills developed. Every student at St Patrick’s is given the opportunity to perform and our attitude is that every role be it solo, ensemble, dancers, artists, backstage crew or audience is important in putting a whole school production together. We are very focussed on the process and the learning that takes place along the journey. The performance is a showcase of the result of the learning.

We are fortunate to be able to perform our shows at what will be the newly refurbished Robert Blackwood Hall at Monash University on October 16, 2024.

We look forward to a creative and musical 2024!

The Christmas Choir 2023

It was wonderful that 60 students from St Patrick’s School were able to celebrate the birth of Jesus by forming a choir and singing for the Vigil Mass on Christmas Eve. It was a beautiful family event and the church was overflowing with people. Congratulations to our students for singing so beautifully and their families for making the Mass even more special.  We had such a lot of positive feedback from the congregation. What a joyous way to praise our Lord Jesus Christ on his birthday.

Thank you to Mary Y’s mother Suzan for the photos. Thank you to our Cantors: Henry C, Eleanor M, and Thomas D. You sang so well.
