WELCOME TO FOUNDATION: TERM 1

We would like to welcome all of our Foundation students and families for 2024! The students have made an amazing start to the school year and have been very busy getting to know each other, their teachers and their school. We are so proud of the way they have settled into school life!

The students have been very busy learning the routines and structure of a school week and they have thoroughly enjoyed attending their specialist classes and getting to know each teacher.

We are encouraging independence in the classroom and recommend that the students carry their own bag into the classroom and unpack their green wallets, drink bottles and lunch boxes themselves.

Last week we sent home the Term One Reading Diaries with students in their Green Wallets. The purpose behind these diaries is to encourage students to read each day - stories can be read by adults, with students joining in if they can. Parents can then note in the Reading Diary each book that has been read. There is also a section for the students to draw their favourite part of a story that was read during the week. We encourage you to read anything you like!

INQUIRY

In Inquiry, students are introduced to the idea of the classroom being a community and they will learn about classroom rules. They will increase their knowledge of ways to keep themselves safe and healthy in different situations and activities. They will also learn to interact and play together in a range of contexts and begin to recognise personal preferences, likes, dislikes and strengths of themselves and others. We will be exploring and learning the meaning of our three school values Respect, Responsibility and Resilience. The class will then brainstorm ways that they can demonstrate these values in and out of the classroom.

WELCOME TO FOUNDATION PICNIC

We would like to invite all of our Foundation families to a ‘Welcome to School Picnic’. This will be a fantastic opportunity for us to come together to celebrate the successful start to the school year and will also provide everyone with a chance to meet and get to know other Foundation families. Our Foundation picnic will take place on Thursday the 29th February at 4:30pm - 5:30pm outside in the junior area/playground at the back of the Foundation classrooms.

We are also very excited to inform you that during the afternoon, we will be giving away family tickets to an AFL game of your choice, kindly donated to us by TheirCare (Out of School Hours Care)!!!

Further information for the afternoon will be sent out via a Compass post closer to the time.

EARLY YEARS INTERVIEW

We are currently conducting the Early Years Assessment with students every Wednesday. Assessment interview times are located on the double doors where the students enter in the morning. These assessment interviews will take around 45 minutes and are conducted 1 - 1 with the Foundation teacher and the student, followed by a 10-15 minute chat with parents/guardians. Please ensure that you and your child arrive on time.

FOUNDATION SPECIALIST TIMETABLE

As Specialists classes have begun we thought it would be useful for you to know which days these occur. When students are participating in Health and Physical Education (HPE) and Perceptual Motor Program (PMP) it would be best if they were wearing sneakers or shoes that they can move around in. Please note that this timetable can change! We will keep you updated if this occurs.
