Welcome Back!

We have started 2024 a bang! Mrs Calvert, Mr Prasad, Mrs Rowe and Miss Wright are so proud of how well our students have settled in and adapted to the classroom routines.

We have spent the first few weeks setting expectations and routines in our classrooms, getting to know each other and settling back into the routine of school.

SWPBL: School Wide Positive Behaviours for Learning

As part of our settling in and establishing classroom routines, the Grade 3/4 classes have been unpacking the school values of Respect, Resilience and Responsibility, and generating a class behaviour matrix. We have also discussed what "excellent students" and "excellent teachers" are, do and say; and established what we are aiming to do and be in the classroom.

Lastly, we have had class discussions about being "ready to learn". We have talked about what being "ready to learn" looks and feels like, and strategies we can use to de-escalate ourselves if we are not ready to learn. The students then created their own ready to learn plan and de-escalation strategies to use in the classroom.

We have been completing some activities to get to know each other. One of these activities was an 'All About Me' backpack. The students have enjoyed looking at each other's backpacks and learning about each other.

Over the last four weeks, the students have been working hard to get themselves organised for a busy term ahead. We have been working through assessments and becoming independent readers. The students have been learning to use their diaries to record their reading.

In Reading this term, we have started to learn and review our reading strategies. We have focused on finding the main idea of a text, creating a summarise of a text using the SWBST method (Somebody, Wanted, But, So, Then) and making connections between the text we are reading to other, texts, world and self. We have also been discussing the expectations of independent reading and the expectations of reading at home.

In Maths, we have started off the year by consolidating our knowledge of odd and even numbers and place value. We are now learning addition strategies such as tally marks, algorithm, number lines, split strategy and more.

Here are some pictures of us getting settled into our learning!

Spelling is run on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. The students enjoy the consistency of spelling and getting to work with a different teacher for their lessons. Here are some pictures of us working hard!

We love spelling!
