 Physical Education

A couple weeks ago we had a visit from some AFL players. The whole school got the chance to meet, listen and ask questions to some of the biggest Carlton FC players going around. It was great to have some elite athletes visit our school, even if Mrs Davey was a little embarrassing 😁 Lots of happy Blues fans also got some goodies to take away.

Our 3-6 swimming lessons have been postponed. These will still go ahead but not in term 1. More info soon.

We also had some state and local hockey coaches come and visit our school last week. They ran a session for our grade 5 and 6 students on the COLA. Some lucky preps also joined in!

Coming up - "*BEEP*, START LEVEL 3.6"

Music

Do I need to type a little louder for all the people with ringing ears after Taylor Swift, Pink and Matchbox 20's recent performances?

Grade 3-6 students have been rotating through our instruments for our Taste Tester term. Each grade has learned how to read guitar and ukulele chord charts, and are now learning to read basic TAB (music using numbers to instruct playing) and bass guitar.

Grade 5 and 6 students are learning more advanced skills and using these to play more difficult songs, whereas grade's 3-4 students are learning the basics so that they can access these instruments.

Grade 1-2 students are learning how to measure music in bars (beats of 4) so that they can anticipate, prepare and perform all together. They have created simple dances that require them to perform each move for two bars, to the beat of a metronome.

Grade Prep students have learned about the Music room and some of the instruments that they will play as they progress. They have played some games to make sure we include everybody, and are looking at being able to find the beat in a song. They have also started looking at some basic music notes and how that can tell us what rhythm to play.

Visual Arts

It has been another creative week in the art room as students work through their pieces as we close in on the end of term one. One thing we love to do is showcase our students work in and around the room, so as they are completed students will have the option to take works home, or offer them for display as we build the student gallery once again this year.

Also a great big thankyou to the students who have continued to share their creative work from home. Inspiration can strike anywhere. Take a look at Layla Ware's creations below and marvel at some of the work that has been created so far, with many many more to come.

Auslan

Students have designed their own Auslan game. We use fingerspelling for our names of people and places.

We have also been signing questions. We have been looking at the difference between English and Auslan Grammar.

Auslan grammatical structure is different to English. In Auslan, you begin with the topic which is then followed by the question or comment

For example, in English you might ask “what is your name?” In Auslan, you would ask “name what?” 'Your name' is the topic of the question and so is presented first.

We have been practicing signing questions about ourselves using the correct Grammar.
