A Dynamic Journey in Science and Health
This term has been marked by strong student engagement and meaningful learning across science and health. Through practical investigations and real-world applications, students developed scientific skills, deepened their understanding, and demonstrated growing confidence across year levels.
Year 7: Scientific Adventures and Healthy Choices
Our Year 7 students have become budding scientists, mastering the art of working safely with laboratory equipment, including the challenge of lighting Bunsen burners! Their HPE classes went beyond textbooks, as students examined how smart nutritional choices can transform their health and wellbeing. Adding a flavourful twist, classes visited our vibrant garden, La Foresta, and devised some healthy lunchbox snacks drawing inspiration from Mt A produce. They also celebrated Australia’s diverse heritage through traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander games.

Year 8: Exploring Life and the Influence of Media
Year 8s embarked on a journey into the microscopic world, learning to distinguish plant and animal cells and uncovering the specialisation that helps organisms thrive. Meanwhile, their HPE lessons delved into the world of media, examining its powerful influence on body image, and discovered new skills on the disc sports field.
Year 9: Scaling Heights and Illuminating Science
Year 9 students engaged in hands-on learning across disciplines. In HPE, students participated in rock climbing and CPR training, developing resilience and lifesaving skills. In science, students investigated the behaviour of light using light boxes, exploring reflection and refraction in a pitch-dark laboratory.

STEM Spotlights
Year 9 STEM Extension students rose to the challenge of a mock crime scene, showcasing their forensic skills and analytical thinking as they unravelled clues and presented their findings to Mr Tenzing.
Year 8 STEM tackled the real-world challenge of microbial resistance, drawing inspiration from Nobel Prize winner Alexander Flemming and presenting their discoveries in a series of impressive scientific posters. See photos below.

Year 10: Endurance and Engineering
The Aquathon stood out as a highlight for Year 10 PE students—a spirited, supportive mini-endurance event that saw classmates cheering one another on. Meanwhile the Year 10 Physics students rose to the challenge of designing and testing an ‘egg-safe’ device to safely delivery an egg from the upper level of the Anthony building to the ground below. This was a perfect learning opportunity for all students that sometimes the theory doesn’t always work! Lucky the ‘eggplosions’ heard were not as loud as the construction works.
Year 12: Field Science in Action
Senior Biology students took their learning outside the classroom, venturing to the Moreton Bay Environmental Education Centre. Here, they collected vital data for their IA2, witnessing firsthand how recent storms reshaped the delicate balance of local ecosystems and the abundance of organisms.
Celebrating Science Leaders
A round of applause for Ava W and Hannah B, our newly named UQ Science Ambassadors for 2026—their dedication and passion promise to inspire peers and set the pace for scientific achievement.
La Luce Transition Afternoon
The La Luce Year 5 & 6 transition afternoon, aided by enthusiastic Year 10s, was a hands-on delight. Participants explored chemical change and the magic of mixtures—crafting their very own thermochromic slime to take home as a reminder of the wonders of science.
