Principal's Report

A Mother's Day Message from Our School Community
Behind every child who walks through our school gates is a network of extraordinary women — mothers, grandmothers, aunts, stepmums, carers, and mentors. Each one playing a unique and irreplaceable role.
Motherhood comes in many forms, and on Sunday we celebrate all of them. Whether you've been there from the very first breath or came into a child's life a little later, whether you're raising children at home or guiding them in the classroom, your love and dedication make a difference every single day.
To every woman or special person in our community who has given their time, their heart, and their strength to the children in their life, we appreciate you, and we celebrate you.
Happy Mother's Day from all of us at Macedon Primary School.
Working Together to Support Student Safety and Wellbeing
From time to time, issues arise between students. This is a natural part of growing up, and our staff are experienced and dedicated to helping young people work through difficulties in a safe and supportive environment. Sometimes these incidents have not yet been reported to a staff member, which means the school may not be aware of the concern.
If your child tells you about something that has happened at school, we ask that you contact your child’s classroom teacher so that we can follow up appropriately.
We also want to gently remind families that it is never appropriate to speak directly to another person's child about an incident, nor do we recommend contacting another family to discuss what has taken place. We understand this can come from a place of real concern, but these conversations can unintentionally make situations more difficult for everyone involved, including the children.
The safety and wellbeing of every student is our highest priority, and we want to be clear: acts of violence are never acceptable. When incidents do occur, we work hard to keep families informed. There may be times, however, when certain details cannot be shared due to the privacy of others, and we ask for your understanding in those moments.
We take privacy seriously. Just as we would never share information about your child with another parent, we ask that you extend the same consideration when talking about other children and families. It is a small act of respect that makes a meaningful difference, because you never quite know what another family is going through.
Some of our students are quietly carrying extraordinary burdens including trauma, family illness, financial stress, or the pain of a family breaking apart. These are challenges that many adults find overwhelming. Our children are navigating them every single day, often without anyone around them knowing. We ask that you please be slow to judge, and quick to show compassion.
Our aim is always to ensure that Macedon Primary School is a safe, supportive and respectful place for every child. By working together, communicating with staff, respecting privacy and not being quick to judge, we can help all students feel supported and safe within our school community.
If you have any concerns about your child's wellbeing at school, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher or our Wellbeing Leader Sue. We are always here to help.
Caring Koala Gum Leaf Awards
As part of our ongoing implementation of School Wide Positive Behaviour Support, we have made a change to the way we recognise positive student behaviour at Macedon Primary School.
We will no longer be presenting our previous student awards. Instead, we have moved to our new Caring Koala Gum Leaf Awards. These awards recognise students who are demonstrating our school values and making positive choices in their learning, relationships and behaviour.
The Caring Koala Gum Leaf Awards will be presented at assembly by our SWPBS Captains. Families will also be able to see and celebrate these awards through Seesaw and Compass.
Mobile Phone Policy Reminder
We would like to remind families of our Mobile Phone Policy. Students who bring a mobile phone or smart watch to school are required to have it switched off and securely stored during school hours. At Macedon Primary School, this means students must sign their phone in at the front office before 9:00am and sign it out after 3:30pm.
Mobile phones are not to be used during the school day, including at recess and lunchtime, unless an approved exception has been granted. If families need to contact their child during the school day, this should be done by calling the school office.
Thank you for your support in helping us maintain a safe and focused learning environment for all students.
For more information, families can read our full Mobile Phone Policy here:https://macedonps.vic.edu.au/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Mobile-Phone-Policy-due-for-review-September-2024.docx-1.pdf
Social Media Reminder
We have recently become aware of issues involving students posting on social media after school hours and naming other students from school. This is inappropriate and can have a significant impact on the wellbeing and safety of students.
We ask families to speak with their children about respectful online behaviour, privacy, and the importance of not naming, targeting or discussing other students on social media.
This is also a timely reminder about the new social media age restrictions in Australia. From 10 December 2025, many social media platforms are required to take reasonable steps to prevent Australians under the age of 16 from creating or keeping accounts. This includes platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, YouTube, X, Threads, Reddit, Twitch and Kick.
We encourage parents and carers to discuss these changes with their children and to reinforce the importance of safe, kind and respectful online behaviour. Information for students can be found here: eSafety social media age restrictions for young people. Information for parents can be found here: eSafety social media age restrictions and your family.
Welcome to School Council
We would like to warmly welcome Meaghan Beaucaire to School Council. Meghan will be filling a 12-month vacancy, and we are very grateful for her willingness to volunteer her time to support our school.
School Council plays an important role in supporting the direction and governance of Macedon Primary School, and we thank Meaghan for putting herself forward to contribute to our school community.
Winter Solstice
Winter Solstice is always a wonderful event on our school calendar and a fantastic opportunity for our community to come together. We are excited to again celebrate this special evening on Friday 19 June.
To help make the event a success, we are looking for volunteers to assist with setup and helping the event run smoothly on the night. If you are able to lend a hand, please contact David Oxworth (Mr O), who is coordinating the event. David.oxworth@education.vic.gov.au
Your support is always greatly appreciated.
Attendance Update
Regular attendance is very important and makes a significant difference to student learning. In Victoria, all children aged 6 to 17 are required to attend school every day unless an exemption has been granted, and parents and carers must provide an explanation for any absence.
At Macedon Primary School, we are aiming for our average number of absences per child to be under 16.5 days for the year. If a child is averaging more than 5 days absent per term, Sue, our Mental Health and Wellbeing teacher, will contact families to discuss how we can work together to support improved attendance. We also ask that any family holidays during school time are discussed with the school and approved in advance.
| Number of Absences | Average Number of Absences |
| 862 | 3.86 |
| Number of Late arrivals | Average number of Late arrivals |
| 437 | 1.96 |
Warm regards,
Andrew Bloomfield
Principal
