School News and Information

STAGE 1 NEWS

Welcome to our Week 5 update for Term 2!

It has been an exciting few weeks in both K/1 Magpies and Year 2 Possums, filled with learning, creativity, and fun.  Here are some highlights and important reminders for our school community.

K/1 Magpies and Year 2 Possums Highlights:

English and Visual Arts:

Students explored the way objects, events and ideas are represented in narrative texts. We studied the text ‘The March Of The Ants’ by Ursula Dubosarsky.  Both classes loved learning all about ants through both an imaginative and informative way.  We created beautiful detailed artworks of ants using water colours, oil pastels and egg cartons.  K/1 Magpies and Year 2 Possums wrote some speech dialogue for their ant character.  Here is some of our work.

Mathematics:

This term K/1 Magpies and Year 2 Possums have been busy learning about data in our Math lessons.  We have created data displays using a combination of pictures, symbols, and words.  Students really enjoyed surveying each class member to find out the most popular ice cream flavour and fruit.  Both classes used their data to answer questions.

Science:

In Science, both classes have been working together to answer the question, how do people use their senses to understand the world around them?  Students enjoyed the lesson learning about their five senses (sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell).

Geography:

This term, Miss Butler has been working with our students to learn all about weather and the seasons!  They have had a fantastic time participating in role-playing activities where they acted out different weather conditions.  Here are some of our role play groups.
