Celebrating Student Achievement

Lavith and Cedar - Striving for SSV Team Vic!

Our Year Six students Lavith (6AI) and Cedar (6JD) have recently participated in trials for School Sport Victoria (SSV) Team Vic. Students who qualify for this program will have the opportunity to challenge themselves against Australia's best school-aged athletes at the annual School Sport Australia (SSA) Championships later this year.

Lavith has now progressed to 2nd round trials for 12 Years and Under Boys Cricket Team, while Cedar has progressed to 3rd round for 12 Years and Under Girls Australian Football Team.

Selection for SSV Team Vic is a very impressive achievement, and we congratulate these talented athletes on their hard work and commitment so far. We all wish Cedar and Lavith the very best of luck in their upcoming rounds!

Lavith took some time to talk all things cricket with us, check out what he had to say below!

Lavith, how long have you been playing cricket?

I have been playing cricket with my friends and dad since I was three, but officially I started club cricket in 2020.

How often do you play cricket?

I play cricket 4-5 days a week. I play both socially and for a club which is Essendon Cricket Club. I am also part of the cricket academy at P2G. For my club I play on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays when the season is on.

How were you feeling on the day of the SSV Team Vic trial?

I was feeling a bit nervous but excited as I was going into the trial but as I started to warm up and ball I started feeling more confident in myself.

Did you have any challenges on the day? If yes, how did you overcome them?

When I got onto the field I felt quite nervous as I knew this trial was very important and I wanted to do my best. I overcame my nervousness by warming up and taking some deep breaths. I also told myself to do my best and not worry about the final result.

What do you think the best thing is about cricket?

What I love the most is supporting my teammates and the excitement everyone feels when we score runs or get a wicket and especially when we win a match.

Would you recommend that other students give cricket a try?

I would definitely recommend other students to give cricket a try as it has multiple roles in which you do very different things and learn a lot which is very fun.

Has anyone or anything helped with your cricket development?

My Coaches have helped me a lot as they teach me new skills and give me different types of advice when I am struggling with something. My parents have encouraged me and took me to practise even when I don't have matches including the off season.

Do you have any advice for other students who are working towards their goals?

I would tell them to never give up, give your best shot to everything and don’t worry about the end result. I would also tell them to always ask for advice and feedback.

Congratulations Clarence!
