大家好!
Hello Everyone
Mandarin has been very busy the past two weeks exploring 端午节 duan wu jie. We have learnt key vocabulary relating to the festival, including 粽子 zong zi - traditional sticky rice dumplings with savory and sweet fillings, 香包 xiang bao - perfumed sachets that drive away bugs and disease, 屈原 Qu Yuan - a poet that inspired the very first Dragon boat races and 赛龙舟 sai long zhou - Dragon Boat Race. The Dragon Boat festival is one of the three biggest celebrations in Chinese culture and is celebrated globally with festivities happening this Saturday May 31st.
Students have not only been learning key vocabulary but they have also been involved with making paper 粽子 zong zi, informative posters about the festival and a whole school dragon boat. Each class has had the opportunity to design a dragon scale that represents all they know about the dragon boat festival and display it on a large cardboard dragon boat. Year Fives were also invited to create the dragon's tail and oars.
It has been so amazing to see you all show your knowledge of Chinese culture and festivals through this whole school project!
