Message from Mrs Meyer

Moved by the Spirit

And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it

filled the entire house where they were sitting. (Acts 2:2)

This Sunday, we commemorate the solemnity of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples marking the beginning of the mission of the Church.

The image of wind used in the scripture resonates deeply with us, especially on days like today. Wind, though invisible to the eye, can be heard and certainly felt. Wind moves things, just as the Holy Spirit moves within us, guiding and inspiring us. Unlike the tumbling leaves or airborne trampolines that we see from time to time, the Holy Spirit directs us toward actions that foster unity and draw us closer to one another and to God.

This means the presence of God in the Holy Spirit, is not something that is removed from our daily lives, we see it every day as people are moved to act in different ways.

This week at Holy Cross we have seen beautiful examples of this:

  • The Fairmaid family made the effort to bring their lambs and sheep to live on our school farm, helping us learn about and practice  our responsibility to care for the world God has given us.

  • Marion, the grandmother of Vinnie and Roman, sourced two brand-new barbecues for our PFA. This thoughtful contribution saved us hundreds of dollars, allowing us to reallocate funds to other areas. Moreover, it enables us to come together as a school community to enjoy BBQ gatherings.
  • Penny, Thomas, and George's mum, Emily, and grandmother, Jan, have demonstrated incredible dedication to our students in art, patiently volunteering each week to teach felting skills to our students, enriching our community with shared talents and experiences.
Thank You Megan!
Thank You Megan!
  • The joy of seeing past student Audrey McNulty return for work experience, as well as the farewells shared for Megan Vaughan, who has completed her time at Holy Cross, highlights the ongoing importance of the relationships built between our entire community of learners.

In the midst of all of this, we've recently experienced both sorrow and joy. Some have faced the heartbreaking loss of loved ones, while others, like Emilian and Alessio, have joyfully welcomed a new baby brother into their family. These significant moments serve as reminders of the enduring presence of spirit moving us to love and hope.

Finally, as we enter into Pentecost and our Year 6 students move closer to celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation, let us pray that we may continue to be open to the Holy Spirit moving within us, to bring about God's dream of love and peace in the world.

Many Blessings,

Eloise Meyer

❄️Brrrr...it's cold out there! ❄️

As temperatures dip into single digits, we’ve noticed quite a few students braving the cold in shorts and light clothing, and not surprisingly, shivering through the day. While we love seeing kids outside and active, it’s important to dress appropriately for health and safety, given our climate.

Please make sure your child is dressed warmly each day in winter uniform, remembering that layers, long pants, jackets, beanies, and gloves can make a big difference. With the appropriate clothing, students can still enjoy the fresh air without the chill factor!

Thanks for your support!

Safety Update

We recently sent out an updated safety notice detailing several changes and procedures we've implemented after careful review.

We've noticed that some students are still walking directly to vehicles without an accompanying adult, especially near the school reception area.

To ensure the safety of all our children, we kindly ask that you accompany your child to your vehicle. This helps keep everyone safe ensuring children don't walk between moving cars or step into oncoming traffic unexpectedly.

We truly appreciate your cooperation in keeping our school a safe and welcoming place for everyone.

All students attending Holy Cross Primary School have the right to feel safe. The care, safety and wellbeing of children and young people is a fundamental responsibility of all within our school.
