Take your pen/ pencil for a walk
The phrase "Take your pen for a walk" is often associated with a creative drawing exercise that encourages free expression, spontaneity, and exploration in art.
The concept has its roots in the automatic drawing techniques used by Surrealist artists, and it's also a popular activity in art education and expressive therapy. The idea is to let your pen move freely on the paper without planning or overthinking.
The LS2 Senior Teachers decided to use this drawing technique to help students build their identity because it encourages self-expression, reflection, and connection to personal and cultural history.
It also connected well with our Concept of Continuity- allowing students to create their thread of history by drawing a continuous, unbroken line, symbolising ongoing movement, flow, and connection.
The students start with a blank sheet and a pen, drawing continuous, meandering lines across the page—looping, swirling, zig-zagging. Students were given the challenge to think about the people, places, words, and things that define who they are. The paths their pens and pencils take become a visual metaphor for a journey—personal, emotional, and imaginative. There’s no fixed destination, just movement and exploration. Students then add colour, patterns, or turn shapes into figures, while focusing on the initial gesture of letting the pen move freely to tell their story.

Building Dreams, One Career at a Time
On Monday, 26th May 2025, the LS2 Learning Space was buzzing with energy, excitement, and a sprinkle of imagination. The room was transformed into a vibrant hub of future possibilities as our Junior students arrived, proudly dressed to represent their dream careers. From the moment they stepped through the doors, the air was filled with curiosity and joy.
We were delighted to be greeted by a wonderfully diverse mix of professionals-in-the-making — from police officers, soldiers, firefighters and veterinarians to doctors, nurses, and teachers. There were also aspiring basketball stars, AFL and soccer players, astronauts, pilots, hotel managers, business people, retail workers, DJs, dancers, car wash entrepreneurs, and construction workers, just to name a few!
Throughout the day, students enthusiastically shared their career aspirations, telling stories of what inspired them and how they imagine their futures. Their creativity, confidence, and genuine excitement were a joy to witness and a powerful reminder that no dream is too big.
It was a heart-warming celebration of ambition, imagination, and identity — and we couldn’t be prouder of our LS2 Juniors. We can’t wait to see where their journeys take them, and we feel honoured to be a part of the first steps along their career paths. The future is bright — and it starts right here!
Here’s to today’s dreamers becoming tomorrow’s leaders. Dream big, little legends!
Have a lovely weekend! 😀
