Traffic Update - A Win for MPS!

After the traffic incident earlier this term, I left my initial meeting with Banyule Council’s Traffic Engineering team feeling frustrated and disappointed. Despite the clear safety concerns raised by the incident, the response was that there wasn’t enough recorded data to warrant intervention on Council-managed land. Somewhat understandable from their perspective — but difficult to accept from mine, especially when the safety of our students and families is involved.

Thankfully, things have since shifted in a very positive direction. Following further discussions - and a bit of gentle persistence on my part - Banyule Council has now confirmed it will be proceeding with significant safety upgrades directly outside our school.

The council will be replacing the current kerb with a High Profile TRIEF Kerb, a heavy-duty barrier-style kerb designed to withstand vehicle impact and redirect vehicles back onto the roadway. This new kerb will run behind the 90-degree parking bays along our school frontage and extend slightly beyond them on either side. While it’s not a treatment previously used in Banyule, it is widely implemented overseas and offers a much higher profile than our current kerb, approximately 400mm high compared to the existing 150mm. There is an example image below.

Subject to the arrival of custom tooling, the installation is expected to take place during the upcoming school holidays. I’ll keep you all updated once dates are confirmed.

This is a terrific outcome for Monty - and a real testament to the power of respectful advocacy, a few well-placed conversations and a firm commitment to keeping our students safe.

SAKG Upgrade

Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve seen some exciting progress in our Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden space, with the completion of Stage One of our planned works. This initial phase has already made a noticeable difference — creating a more functional, inviting and inspiring space for our students to learn, grow and get their hands dirty.

While there’s still more to come, and we’re thrilled with the transformation so far. This is just the beginning, with more work to be completed to bring our full vision for the space to life. If you haven't yet, make sure to check out the progress the next time you're at school.

We’re hopeful that our builder will be back onsite early next term to commence the next stage, and we can’t wait to share further updates as the works progress. It’s a fantastic start - and a great sign of what’s still to come!

MPS Discos!

Mark your calendars for Friday, 20th June and get those neon outfits ready — it’s almost time to shine, sparkle and dance the night away!

We’ve got two epic sessions lined up:

Foundation – Year 3: 4:30 – 5:30pm
Years 4 – 6: 6:00 – 7:00pm

The Discovery Centre will transform into the ‘Disco-very Centre’, glowing with colour, movement and music for what’s sure to be one of the highlights of Term 2! 🌈🪩

Janene's Return

Janene’s time travelling across Europe and the UK is almost over, and we’re excited to welcome her back to school on Wednesday, 18th June. When you see her, be sure to say hello - just try not to be too jealous of the tan she has no doub perfected while gallivanting through summer in the northern hemisphere! Hopefully, she settles in quickly and doesn’t mind the chill as she adjusts back to Melbourne’s brisk reality.

Sibling Enrolments for 2026

Remember, if you have a child due to start Foundation with us at MPS in 2026, we encourage you to complete and return their enrolment forms as soon as possible.

Traffic Crossing Safety

A gentle reminder to all drivers in our school community to please take extra care and show courtesy around pedestrian crossings, especially during the busy times at the start and end of the school day. One of our crossing supervisors mentioned it's a timely moment to remind everyone of the importance of patience and awareness to help keep our students and families safe.
