In this course, students develop transferable media skills, introducing them to animation techniques and video production. Students revise the basics of image editing, camera shots and angles, and video planning and production along with an initial focus on short animations.

Adobe Photoshop is used to edit images for both school projects and personal use. Animation concepts are taught and applied through a sequence of learning activities using Adobe After Effects, with which students then plan and produce a short animation sequence.

After watching clips from a range of animated films, students construct short, animated films. Students work on sound and special effects tasks in addition, to add other skills related to the production of film and to enhance animated film construction. They then use Adobe Premiere Pro to build video editing skills.

Finally, students in groups create their own short film, one with an incorporated animated element. In this, they write their scripts, organise storyboards and shot-lists, plan, design, shoot and edit their own short film. Special effects, animation and post-production effects are then added to the video, increasing scope for creativity in their storylines. Student videos may incorporate 'green screen' techniques or additional audio recording.

The tasks in Multimedia require group work, co-operation and shared creative control, as students swap roles and collaborate within their project teams.
