Life in Year 6

District Cross Country

One of the exciting parts of life in Year 6 is taking part in big events like the District Cross Country. Lots of our students gathered with others from nearby schools, all cheering on St Finbar’s runners. Everyone gave their best effort, showing determination and team spirit. It wasn’t just about competing—it was about having fun, supporting each other, and experiencing the thrill of a big event together. This made the day an exhilarating and memorable part of being in Year 6.

Winter Sport

Winter Sport has been a fantastic experience for Year 6 students this term. Our footy and netball teams have been hard at work, winning games and learning new skills. Team 2 Footy won three of their four games, narrowly losing one against St Joan of Arc. Team 1 Footy scored an impressive win by 44 points, and Team 1 Netball played well with two wins. More than just the results, students have enjoyed the chance to play alongside other year levels, meet new friends from other schools, and build lasting friendships. This mix of competition and connection is a big part of life in Year 6.

Production Rehearsals

Another exciting aspect of Year 6 life is being part of the school production. Rehearsals are happening every day, with dress rehearsals starting and costumes being fitted. Students are thrilled to see their characters come to life through costumes and acting. Everyone is putting in lots of effort, and the progress is clear as skills improve and confidence grows. Miss Kay’s supportive and fun environment helps students get “in the zone” and really enjoy the creative process—making production a highlight of Year 6.

Excursions

Excursions are an important part of life in Year 6, giving students hands-on learning experiences outside the classroom. At the Shrine of Remembrance, students watched cadets march and listened to speeches from high schoolers and the Governor of Victoria. Luke and Jordan represented our school by laying a wreath at the eternal flame, a proud moment for them and the school.

At the Immigration Museum, students explored stories of migration and worked together to answer questions about the past and present. They visited special areas like the Notre Dame room and heard personal migration stories from Ms Bourke and Mr Tyndall, helping them understand history in a meaningful way. These excursions add depth and connection to the Year 6 learning experience.

Grease the Musical

Being part of Year 6 means experiencing inspiring events like watching Grease the Musical at St Michael’s Grammar. Students loved the songs, costumes, and acting, finding the show entertaining and exciting. The live orchestra and attention to detail brought the story to life, and those involved in our own school production felt motivated by the performance. It’s experiences like this that make life in Year 6 creative and memorable.

Anzac Day Dawn Service

Life in Year 6 also includes meaningful moments like participating in the Anzac Day Dawn Service. Lachie H and Alana woke up early to attend this special event alongside St Finbar’s staff. They laid a wreath in remembrance, connecting with the history and sacrifice honored on Anzac Day. Meeting Ms Hill’s father, a Vietnam War veteran, added a personal touch to the experience. This moment reminds us that life in Year 6 is not only about fun and learning but also about respect and community.
