Theatre Studies

For Theatre Studies Units 1 & 2 and 3 & 4, students collaborated to stage their production of Radium Girls.
Set in the early 20th century, Radium Girls is based on the true story of female dial painters who were unknowingly poisoned by radium while working for negligent employers. The play follows Grace Fryer, a young worker who courageously fights for justice and compensation before she falls victim to her illness from radium exposure.
Students worked together across all aspects of the production — including set and prop design, lighting, sound, costume, direction and acting, to bring their recontextualised vision of the play to life. They applied their understanding of the theatrical styles of ‘realism’ and ‘magic realism’ throughout the planning, development, and performance stages of the project, documenting and evaluating their processes.
The play was performed on Tuesday 20 and Wednesday 21 May for families and friends to see. Viewers took great pleasure as audience members watching a story unfold, while actors were pleased and happy to see their hard work come to life on stage.
A big thank you to our producer Ms Connolly, Dan Truscott, and Beaumaris Theatre Company to help contribute to the creation of our play.
