Dear Sacred Heart Families,
As we reach the midpoint of Term 2, the days get shorter and the weather colder, I pause to reflect on all we have achieved as a school community so far this year and all we have to look forward to.
Assessment & Reporting
The teachers are engaging in rich and meaningful dialogue about student learning, more specifically about student progress, assessment and reporting. The gathering and analysis of student data in relation to their learning ensures the teaching programs and lessons progress student knowledge and understanding. Teachers can adjust learning goals and strategies based on individual student needs where necessary. On Friday, 27th June you will receive your child's Semester One report for 2025. On Wednesday, 2nd July children will be invited to attend a Learning Conference during the day with yourself and the classroom teacher/s to discuss the report in greater depth and reflect on his/her learning progress over the past semester. These conversations are an important aspect of the partnership between home and school and look forward to seeing you then.
Prep 2026 Interviews
Over the past month, I have engaged in one of my favourite parts of the year - meeting children and families who have a child beginning Prep in 2026. One of the questions that I ask of potential new families is "What is it the draws you to Sacred Heart?" and "Why do you think it would be a good fit for your family and child?" These questions are important because they help me understand more about what parents are looking for in a school, how we can better serve our community and what makes our school so special. Three key themes have emerged - a warm, welcoming & inclusive community, a focus on the whole child including academic & social emotional growth and a school that is grounded in the Catholic faith & teachings of Jesus. Families tell me they are also drawn to the strong reputation the school holds within the broader community. Last but not least, many parents I speak with will say is just the 'feel' of the school and I couldn't agree more. Whilst it is impossible to measure a 'feel', I think we all know when it is there and when it is not. I am proud and blessed to lead a school community that has such a 'feel' and thank the staff, children and families who ensure that this special feeling is present each and every day.
We look forward to welcoming our new Preps to Sacred Heart soon as they begin their transition into school life through our PreSchool Discovery program in Term 3 & Transition Program in Term 4.
This week we mark National Reconciliation Week, a time for us to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements and to explore how we can contribute to reconciliation. For children, it's an important opportunity to develop understanding, empathy and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples—the First Nations custodians of this land. By learning about reconciliation from a young age, children grow into compassionate and informed citizens who value truth, fairness and unity.
The Sacred Heart 'Indigenous Perspectives' Student Voice & Agency Leadership group leaders, Madison & Sadie, created a short presentation and spoke with each class about Reconciliation Week and it's significance. I have also met with the group today to plan for future projects to continue to raise awareness of the indigenous people of Australia. We look forward to sharing these with you later this term and early Term 3.
