Fantastic 3/4

Term 2 Week 8

3/4 Newsletter

Welcome to Week 8 of Term 2!

We hope you all enjoyed a relaxing long weekend. Over the past two weeks, students have been hard at work wrapping up units in maths and crafting some fantastic persuasive letters. It’s been a busy and productive time, and we’re so proud of all their efforts!

Literacy:

Over the past two weeks, students have planned and completed persuasive letters addressed to Parliament House, urging action to stop deforestation in Australia. They confidently used the OREO structure to organise their ideas and have produced some truly compelling pieces of writing.

Maths:

In Maths, students have been building on their understanding across various topics. Our Year 3 students have revisited addition and subtraction, with a focused look at using base ten blocks to support grouping and regrouping strategies. Meanwhile, our Year 4 students have begun exploring the concept of time, specifically focusing on elapsed time and learning strategies to calculate it accurately.

Inquiry

In Inquiry, students have continued exploring First Nations cultures through a range of focused learning experiences. This week, we looked closely at the tools used by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples for hunting, gathering, and daily life. Students explored a variety of tools such as boomerangs, spears, stone axes, and digging sticks, learning how each was carefully designed for a specific purpose. We discussed how these tools were made using natural materials and how their use reflected a deep understanding of the land, animals, and environment. This learning has helped students appreciate the innovation, sustainability, and cultural significance of traditional practices.
