Terrific 2

Term 2 Week 8 2025 - Friday 13th of June
What have we been up to?
Dear Parents, Carers, and Students,
It’s been a busy and exciting few weeks in Year 2! We are already in Week 8! Nearly time for the holidays again!
In Literacy
We have started an exciting new novel, Mirror by Jeannie Baker. The students have been comparing their own environments and daily lives with what life might look like if they lived in Morocco. This week, students will begin a creative writing piece, focusing on using vivid imagery and descriptive adjectives to bring their writing to life.
We’ve also been busy with LLLL testing and comprehension assessments this week. We’re so proud of how positive and flexible all the students have been throughout this process — amazing effort from everyone!
We’ve also been focusing on building reading fluency. Each day, students practise reading a paragraph aloud, working on the same passage throughout the week. It’s wonderful to see their confidence grow as they become more fluent and comfortable reading in front of their peers.
In Maths
This week we are moving into a new topic: Money. Students will be learning how to order and count money, skills that are very useful in everyday life. We encourage you to practice counting and calculating change at home, whether during shopping trips or through simple money games.
Inquiry
Our inquiry learning has been hands-on and creative this week! Students have started using natural materials to build their own connections to Country and personal experiences. They’ve been drawing, collecting materials outside, and painting as part of their inquiry projects. It’s been wonderful to see their creativity and thoughtful reflection grow.
Students also took part in a suburban rail loop incursion, which is an educational incursion designed to build their knowledge and understanding of things that are going on in the local community and helps develop students' knowledge of machines and Melbourne's infrastructure.
Leader in Me and Respectful Relationships:
We’re excited to remind you that Leadership Day is coming up next Tuesday, 17th June. This special event at Le Page Primary School is a celebration of student voice, confidence, and growth. Our young leaders will have the chance to shine as they share their achievements through speeches, performances, and classroom experiences. We warmly invite you to join us in celebrating their hard work and progress!
Home Readers
Please remember that READERS ARE CHANGED EVERY MONDAY. Students will take 2 books each Monday, where they can alternate throughout the week. Please remember, students need to read these everyday as they are all in grade 2 now.
Readers will only be changed on a Monday. This may be repetitive for your child however that is the purpose. We are focusing on fluency and confidence.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or would like to discuss your child’s progress.
Thank you for your support, Kayla Mugford, Hannah Jackson & Sam Downs

What’s Coming Up in Year 2
It is nearly the end of the term!
In Literacy, students will continue developing their decoding and writing skills by focusing on the sounds oo, ew, and ui. We’ll also begin exploring the concept of perspective in stories. Looking closely at a character’s actions, thoughts, and feelings through their point of view. Perspective comes from the Latin root meaning “to look through” or “perceive,” which ties in beautifully with our new class text, Mirror by Jeannie Baker. This visually stunning and thought-provoking book will help us explore different perspectives and cultural experiences in a meaningful way.
In Maths, students will be completing their maths post tests and PAT testing.
