Thursday last week was a special day for our school with students wearing blue and donating gold coins in support of the Dolly's Dream foundation.
There was blue hairspray, friendship bracelets and activities galore with students particularly enjoying working together with our teachers to create the blue butterfly that was carefully captured via drone by Mr Calnin. The messaging to students was that of hope for a future, free of bullying and to spread kindness.
Dolly’s Dream is committed to changing the culture of bullying by addressing the impact of bullying, anxiety, depression and youth suicide, through education and direct support to young people and families.
If you would like more information on this incredible organisation, please visit their website at: https://www.dollysdream.org.au/
Please see below for just a small glimpse of the activities and fun had across the school with special mention to Delilah in 5/6T who created the poster below to share with her peers.
A big thanks to our Student Voice Team, Ms Kattwinkel and Ms Pietsch for organising the day - we raised $402 for Dolly's Dream!
A reminder to all families that we have a process for volunteer induction for all school activities, excursions and camps. Our induction process is valid for 12 months and is now available to complete online via our new FPPS Volunteers Portal:
https://sites.google.com/education.vic.gov.au/fpps-visitors-portal/home
Please use the link at your convenience and head to the OHS Induction for Volunteers tab where you can review all policies and complete induction.
We encourage all families who wish to volunteer in any capacity this year, to complete the online form and this information will be recorded at our front office.
** Please note the Christmas Fair has a separate induction as this is a large-scale school event.
We continue to value the partnership in education with families and appreciate and value the ongoing support to ensure our students have every opportunity.
It won’t be long now, and our all-weather structure will begin to take shape with the steel preparation currently underway. This is when we will start to visibly see some real progress and the structure takes shape.
Pleasingly, our students have shown incredible flexibility and behaviour around the building sites with two major projects on the go at the same time.
Our school amphitheatre on the outer edge of the school oval is well underway and progress on this has been swift with WXT Landscaping on the job. We will have this new space ready to enjoy in the coming weeks and I am confident it will be well loved by students, teachers and families.
This week, we have also seen a new fence put up at the front of the school adjacent to the basketball courts. A three-metre-high fence will hopefully keep balls on the basketball court and not on Camden Road!
The new and very important policy was announced by the Minister for Education at the 2025 Government Schools Principals' Conference on Tuesday 3 June 2025.
The new policy clearly outlines that racism is not tolerated in Victorian Government schools. It consolidates advice, guidance and resources on cultural safety, inclusion and incident response into a single statewide policy.
Why the policy is important
We know that students experience racism and its negative impacts, and that schools are increasingly responding to this issue.
In the 2024 Attitudes to School Survey, 14% of students in Victorian Government schools said they had experienced racism that term, and 17% said they had experienced racism in the past year.
In the 2024 Attitudes to School Survey for students at Fyans Park, 2% of students said they had experienced racism that term, and 4% said they had experienced racism in the past year. Our aim is to have this result be Zero.
In addition, our data from students last year indicated that 91% of students reported knowing what to do if they experience racism. Still this education piece is an important one for our school and for all students F-6.
This new policy is designed to help schools take actions to prevent and address racism, religious intolerance and racial and religious vilification.
This policy comes into effect from the start of Term 3, 2025 (Mon 21 July) and this information has been published on our website in the policies section along with links to advice on how to report incidents of racism to the school and through the Report Racism hotline.

With our expected behaviours now familiar to students and visible in all classrooms, our SWPBS team of teachers and our Student Wellbeing Leaders, Max and Gracie, have been using all the available data to determine a fortnightly behaviour focus for the whole school and an area we can target our attention to that is clear for students.
Most recently Max and Gracie informed students that some of the sports equipment being borrowed out at lunchtimes wasn’t being returned, so over the last two weeks, the focus has been Responsibility: We take care of school property and our belongings.
This fortnight the focus is: We use positive language.
Next week and in the coming weeks at assembly, Values Awards will be awarded for students who have demonstrated the agreed fortnightly focus.
Students’ positive behaviour is also be acknowledged via our Dojo system in each class, with students earning ‘Dojo reward points’ to go towards a wide range of school-based experiences.
For more information about School Wide Positive Behaviour Support please head to our website at: https://fyansparkps.vic.edu.au/teaching-and-learning/swpbs/
You may recall that at each of our assemblies this term, we have featured a budding artist from across the school in the lead up to our Art Show later in Term 3. So far we have seen artworks from Roy O, Xavier T and Noah H.
See below the latest artwork by Roy O in 34T which he completed during his Art classes. Mrs Payne, one of our Visual Arts teachers, was very impressed with Roy's excellent blending of colours to create texture and movement. She was pleased with Roy's great combination of warm and cool colours.
Have a great week everyone.
