The Stand Up Project

We are thrilled to announce that our school will soon be launching the Stand Up Project, a program that reduces discrimination, harassment and bullying through student-designed and delivered Upstander Training. One of the key messages of the program is the importance of becoming upstanders – people who choose to speak up and take action when they see something that isn’t right. Students will explore how small actions can make a big difference and how standing up for others helps create a safer, more inclusive school environment.

The program prioritises student voice, agency, and leadership. Students learn about the bystander effect and the drivers and impacts of poor behaviour. They identify the most age-appropriate ways to support targets and address poor behaviours. Students then teach what they know to younger students, their teachers and families.

We’re especially excited to share that our Year 5/6 cohort will kick off the project with a special training session on Wednesday 21st May. All students in Years 5 and 6 will take part in this inspiring day of learning, where they’ll build leadership and communication skills and gain the confidence to be upstanders in their daily lives.

Following this, a selected group of students will become our official Stand Up Leaders. These leaders will then teach the key skills and messages of the program to our Year 3 and 4 students through fun, interactive sessions. The Stand Up Leaders will also lead a parent information evening on Thursday 26th June.

We believe this project will strengthen our school community by building confidence, empathy, and a culture of kindness. We can’t wait to see our senior Willy Kids step up and shine!
