School Council News

We were excited to begin May's meeting by being joined by Paddy and Abby from the JSC. Paddy gave a fantastic update on the events of the last month. This included the house athletics day, a successful 'walk to school' day and another victorious performance by the Willy Kids the district cross-country championships. He also shared how Richie and Emma had expertly been leading school tours for next year’s prep parents. The highlight was the opening of the Millennial Time Capsule, sealed 25 years ago and opened this week. Hidden inside were many great predictions and anecdotes, some from current Willy parents and staff, although the prediction of widespread use of hover boards in 2025 has sadly fallen short.
This was followed by the AGM. Our president Jason began this with an Acknowledgement of Country. In doing this, it was great to reflect upon the history our school is built on and the part we play in respecting it and carrying it forward. The AGM itself was largely a formality, but it was great to acknowledge all the developments and achievements over the last year.
In his Principal’s report, Matt shared the good news of the incredible fundraising done in the Election BBQ and Mother’s Day lunch. Thanks very much to all those who volunteered and contributed. It re-affirms the fantastic supportive community we have.
After the finance reports were tabled, the Education Policies sub-committee gave reports on three policies. The first was updates to the Sunsmart policy. This will look to embed sun safety further into school life, especially as the summers get longer, and we look forward to launching this closer to spring. The second was on the Communicating with Staff policy, which sets frameworks and encourages respective and fruitful dialog. The third was the homework policy. Parents can expect a survey in the coming months on their reflections on this part of school life. So yes, some homework for them!
The next meeting will be on Tuesday the 17th of June.
