School News

As part of Reconciliation Week, our students will be engaging in meaningful activities to build understanding and respect. On Monday, our Fire Carrier leaders will read a special Sorry Day book to the whole school, helping explain the significance of the Stolen Generations and the importance of the government to say sorry. Then on Friday, our Year 3 to 6 students will join in a special online Healing Mass run by Catholic Education Sandhurst Ltd to reflect and pray for ongoing reconciliation. Families are welcome to participate from home by scanning the QR code provided.
Last Friday, our students proudly took part in Walk Safely to School Day, promoting healthy habits, road safety awareness, and environmental care. It was wonderful to see so many families and students making the effort to walk, ride or scoot their way to school!
This national initiative encourages not only physical activity, but also helps build independence and reinforces important safety messages about crossing roads, using footpaths and being visible to drivers.
A big thank you to families who supported the day—it’s these small daily actions that help build lifelong habits for our children’s health and wellbeing.
Cross Country
What an awesome day that we had at the Bendigo Racecourse competing in the Sandhurst Cross Country Competition against all schools in and around the Bendigo region. All students gave it their all throughout their race and everyone beat their own personal goal which was amazing! Congratulations to our 7 students who participated and represented our school so wonderfully.
Athletics Day
We could not have asked for a better day in the sun for our Athletics Day in Bendigo. The students all pushed themselves to the limit, attempting to break as many records as they could! All the training that the students have completed has paid off really well and the students should be proud of themselves.
We will update the students and everyone else of overall results in the coming week.
Loddon Campaspe Healthy Schools Project- Garden Launch
Last Friday was the official launch of our vegetable garden. We were joined by Cr Miki Wilson, Narelle Bickford (Healthy Loddon Campaspe) and Dianne Wayman. The students shared their knowledge of how different vegetables benefit our bodies and heard about the importance of eating a rainbow of vegetables. Students discussed their favourite vegetables and their preferred ways that you prepare them. St Mary's P.S. was presented with colourful signage to promote eating vegetables and a vast amount of seeds to plant throughout the seasons. Students then undertook the first harvest of Pak Choy from the veggie patch. There will be a lot to harvest over the coming weeks, so there will be many opportunities for students to enjoy their favourite veggies and perhaps try some new ones.
2025-2026 Fire Season
As part of our commitment to keeping our community informed and prepared, we are sharing part of our updated Fire Safety Policy well in advance. St Mary’s is rated as a Category 3 school under the Bushfire At-Risk Register (BARR), which requires us to follow specific procedures as outlined in our Emergency Management Plan.
