Triathlon

The Orange Triathlon Club held it's annual AGM and Awards presentation recently and Kinross Wolaroi athletes were recognised for their hard work through the 2024-2025 season.

Max Horne received the award for Most Improved Athlete in his first year of the sport. Max developed his swimming and cycling skills to complement his strength in running. Whilst his running is still a stand out, his hard work in the other disciplines is shining through.

Sam Commins continued on from the 2023-2024 season and received the Junior Male Encouragement Award. Sam's strength is in the cycle leg, but just like Max, he trained hard in both swimming and running.  HIs commitment to the sport is to be admired.

Zoe Wood is pictured holding the Central West All Schools Development Shield for 2024-2025 for Kinross Wolaroi. Zoe is the outgoing team captain and has been a committed member of the triathlon squad for the past 6 years.

MIC Report

The last two weeks has seen our students ripping into their Rugby and it has been encouraging to see the commitment our students have to the game. Despite our boys having a number of students away with sickness, the remaining boys travelled to Sydney and a number of them doubled up ensuring we were able to meet our commitments. Well done to these young men.

Our U14 & U 16 girls took the trip to Trinity College, Goulburn and with one big win and one close loss. It is great to see these young ladies continue their development.

Our last home game two weeks ago saw us hold a Jersey Presentation Breakfast for our 1st XV, 2nd XV and Opens Girls teams. In a very special ceremony, our players were asked to name the teacher that academically inspires them the most. It was a wonderful acknowledgement of the impact our amazing teachers have on our students. A special thanks to all those teachers who gave up their morning to attend.

This Saturday sees most of our teams playing at home which will be another amazing experience. We look forward to a huge crowd, many wins, and a heap of positive Rugby memories being made.

Under 15 A’s

The Under 15 A’s played Oakhill 15 A’s on Saturday 17th May 2025 at Oakhill College, Castle Hill Sydney.

The side was defeated 48-7. From the kick-off, Oakhill was able to convert possession and momentum into points and did this playing a dominant style of running rugby. They were able to pile on 33 unanswered points in the first half. The second half saw Kinross Wolaroi improve in areas, and they managed to score after maintaining possession and working their way into the opposing 20m. With some quick-thinking Hamish Leader was decisive and went over to score the sides only try for the match.

I have encouraged the team to take some key learnings away from this game;

  • Ensuring individuals and the team are mentally prepared for all matches, considering the dynamics of a contact sport like Rugby Union. This is especially important when travelling to Sydney and using bus transportation
  • Communicating with one another in defense to ensure players are marking the opposition and adjusting their positioning when necessary
  • Defending in a line and moving forward to minimize space and time for the opposition
  • Making the correct decision when in possession of the ball to improve field position and/or score points

Match Points were allocated to the following players

3 – Ash Robinson

2 – Hamish leader

1 – Tom Casey

A special mention to Marcus Leigo who played 2 full games on the weekend. Playing in the forward pack, Marcus was able to get through a significant amount of work.

This week the 15 A’s travel to Bathurst to play Scots All Saints.

Congratulations to the following students who medal & progress through to the All Schools’ Championships later this month: Caleb Cashman (Yr12) Anabel Arnott (Yr12) Chloe McGilvray (Yr12) & Tom McIsaac (Yr7).

LTS is back under way for Term 2!

During week 9 of our Curricular swimming & afternoon we ran our termly Safety week. Students took part in safety demonstrations, challenges & skills to ensure we are increasing our awareness around bodies of water.

These weeks provide invaluable, tangible experiences for our learners across all levels of our swimming program. It is very encouraging to see so many students return to lesson throughout the winter months.

Any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to the swimming team.

National Swimming Championships

Congratulations to the Kinross National Team on their achievements at the recent National Championships held in Brisbane over the school holidays. These national championships as a team, resulted in the highest PB percentage we have seen at the national level. A terrific achievement for the team.

Special mention to Anabel Arnott, top 10 in 3 from 3 races!
