This Week At OOPS

Grandparents Day

On Thursday morning, the Year 1s and 2s were happy to welcome some of our grandparents into the classroom to interview them about the past. They told us some interesting information about what life was like when they were at school. We enjoyed seeing all the artefacts that they brought in, like the rotary phone, school books and photos. The grandparents were so excited to meet all the students and tell us about the past. It was nice of them to give up their time to come to our classrooms.

This morning would not have been possible without the guests giving up their time to come and speak to the students, so we'd like to thank each one of our grandparents, great-grandparents and other special people who came along.

Exciting Arrival!

Our Year 3s have been hatching chickens in line with our kitchen garden program.

We have been encouraging children to explore their lifestyles, develop empathy and consider having them in their own backyard.  These fluffy chicks are adorable!

Thank you!

We have recently received some very generous donations of sporting equipment at Old Orchard Primary. We are extremely grateful to Shaun (Ellery's Dad) who works for Wilson Sporting Goods, who have donated almost 500 different types of balls to our school!  Our students can't wait to test out the new equipment!

Thanks also to Jo and Ash Simpson for a donation of footballs. The OOPS community is amazing!

Year 3 Museum Excursion

Last Friday it was the Year 3's turn to visit Melbourne Museum as part of their inquiry unit on First Nation's People.  They learnt all about indigenous customs, tools, ways of life and culture.  This learning has been brought back into the classroom to inspire their non-fiction reports.

Thanks so much to our incredible parent helpers Hitomi, Claire, Stav and Deanna for joining us.

Prep Discovery

This week in Prep, we have learnt the sounds /v/ and /ll/, read a story about teamwork, and investigated informal units of length. Our Discovery prompts were:

English: Can you find the letters to spell the tricky words?

Maths: Which is longer?

Collage: Can you work as a team to complete a colouring puzzle?

Construction: Can you use teamwork to build something together like they did in the story?

Dramatic Play: What happens at the v-v-vet?

Fine Motor: Can you collect all the buttons from the sand?

This week's Inspectors were Oliver S & Ellie (PNT), Caitlyn & Edith (PMB), Lavinia & Aidan (PBF). All photos were what our inspectors captured in our Discovery sessions.
