This is what our students have been up to this week.
In Prep-2, students have been working in pairs to build their own robots. While the Prep/1 class have been building more traditional robots, our 1/2 class are extending the process with planning the concept and building. Working with peer support, they were able to work through design changes from their initial concept sketches. Once their robot had been put together, with recycled materials, students then set about covering them with papier mache. Once dry, the next step will be to keep adding components from their plans and to paint them.
The Indigenous Literacy Foundation’s Indigenous Literacy Day 2025 “Strength In Our Stories:
The Indigenous Literacy Day’s (ILD) theme for 2025 is Strength In Our Stories: For Now and Future Generations. ILD is a day to celebrate First Nations Stories, Cultures and Languages. Grinj Det K’Taun Krok! (Grinch The K-Town Croc!), a book written in English and Kriol by the students from Katherine High School, is a perfect choice to celebrate this year’s ILD theme. By sharing stories, we connect in both similarities and differences that make us unique and beautiful, learning the lives of others makes us richer as individuals and as a country.

On Wednesday, 3/4K and 4/5A joined a Livestream from the Sydney Opera House on for a special presentation. Our students listened to the books writters narrate their story and then joined in in some interactive elements of the live.
After our livestream, students watched a performance from The Sydney Opera House where the ILF Ambassadors and Special Guests - Lucas Proudfoot, Bianca Hunt, Josh Pyke and Andy Griffiths hosted the performances celebrating Aboriginal storytelling.
