What's Happening At Milgate!
Milgate Primary School would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land of the Wurundjeri People, and we would like to pay our respects to the elders both past and present. Staff, students and the school community understand that we thrive, learn and live on Wurundjeri Country and we stand with all cultures united as one.
To provide a dynamic, inclusive learning environment that challenges students to become inquirers, thinkers and caring young people who are able to interact in the global society with respect and intercultural understanding.
On Wednesday this week, the Year 1 students had a fantastic day visiting the Melbourne Museum as part of their inquiry into 'Where we are in place and time'.
The students had so much fun exploring fossils and rocks as they wandered through the thrilling Dinosaur Walk, and visited Horridus the Triceratops, one of the most complete Triceratops fossils ever found, unearthed after 67 million years. The students explored the concepts of change and connection as they viewed artefacts and noticed how things have changed over time and made connections to their personal lives. They used their research skills to read and learn information about historical artefacts throughout the museum. They explored and found information on Earth’s history, as well as Indigenous culture, and Melbourne’s history.
Thank you very much to all the parent helpers who offered up their time to assist us on the day, we were greatly appreciative and hope you enjoyed the day too!
On Wednesday and Friday this week, the Year 3 students engaged in a full day of science exploration with ‘The Lab’ incursion run by the Mini Boss team. The students investigated a range of scientific experiments focussing on forces, properties of materials and chemical reactions. Some highlights were making bath bombs and hypothesising about the pH of different liquids. The students thoroughly enjoyed this hands-on day where they could apply all of their new knowledge and skills from our current unit of inquiry.
Next Friday, we are excited to celebrate the wonderful dads and father figures of our Milgate community. You are warmly invited to join us in your child’s classroom during the first session of the day for a special hour of activities, fun, and connection.
It’s a chance to spend time with your child, see their learning environment, and share in some hands-on activities together. We look forward to welcoming you and making this a memorable start to Father’s Day weekend!
Next Thursday 4th September, Team Kids will host a light breaky before school for parents and some fun activities for the students. It will be a great opportunity for our parent community to meet the staff and learn more about what TeamKids has to offer. The staff will be set up near the canteen, so come along and say hi!
