A Message from the Assistant Principal

At the Heart of Learning is Partnership

At our school, we believe that true learning thrives in partnership.

When teachers see learning through the eyes of their students, and when students begin to see themselves as capable of leading their own learning, genuine growth takes place. This balance of support and independence is powerful.

As a community, we want to continue strengthening this partnership, with teachers, students, and parents working together to build confidence, curiosity, and ownership in every child’s learning journey.

Reading at home

When your child is reading at home, simple questions such as “What do you think will happen next?” or “Why do you think the character did that?” encourage them to use the same deep-thinking strategies teachers foster in the classroom.

By engaging in these conversations, you are strengthening the partnership between home and school, supporting your child’s growth as a confident and reflective reader and reinforcing our shared focus on learning.

You can use the same approach when it comes to play: asking, “How did you help someone play better or include them today?” encourages your child to reflect on care, teamwork, and kindness; strengthening the partnership between home and school while focusing on our core business: learning and growing together.

This week, I met with all grade levels to review the reading and writing progress of each student. During these meetings, we examined the data and celebrated the growth achieved so far. We also discussed the next steps for student learning, with a particular focus on how we can continue to extend and challenge their thinking.

Year 3 & 4 Performance Readiness Test

Next week, our Year 3 and 4 students will sit a Performance Readiness Test for the National Education Standards Authority (NESA).

NESA will use the trial to check system performance and improve future assessment tools for schools.

For our students it provides valuable practice in NAPLAN-style conditions in a supportive, low-risk setting. No student results will be recorded, allowing students to focus on the process and build confidence.

We look forward to supporting our students through this important learning experience.

With gratitude,

Anthony Matthews
