Principal's Message
Ms Grace Carlo-Stella
Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been a very busy and exciting fortnight at StMM’s, with so many wonderful experiences for our students and community.
Our Book Character Parade was such a joyful occasion! Thank you to all the parents who helped with costumes and joined us via Zoom on the day to celebrate the joy of reading. It was fantastic to see the creativity on display and the pride students took in dressing up as their favourite book characters. I am sure the students, staff and parents enjoy the short role play of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves by the leadership team.
Several excursions took place last week, giving our students the chance to learn beyond the classroom. A special thank you to the many parents who volunteered their time to assist and to our teachers, especially Mrs Kellie Foley, for the significant planning and organisation that goes on behind the scenes to ensure these days run smoothly. Your support makes these opportunities possible.
Over the weekend, our Mathematics and History books went home. We hope you enjoyed sitting alongside your child and looking through their hard work. These books showcase the effort, creativity and learning that has taken place across the term and it was wonderful to see the pride students had in sharing them with you.
Yesterday, we celebrated Father’s Day with our stall. Thank you to Mrs Nancy Kubti, Mrs Dom Yenco and teachers for working tirelessly behind the scenes and to the parents who assisted with the setup and sales. Your support ensures that our students have the chance to buy something special for their dads and father figures and the funds raise will be put towards purchasing resources to assist the students with their learning.
We wish all fathers, grandfathers, and significant father figures in our community a very Happy Father’s Day this Sunday and we look forward to having you join us tomorrow for our Father’s Day liturgy and morning tea.
We are pleased to share that the refurbishment of the primary toilets has now been completed and they are officially open. This has been a significant project and the new facilities look fantastic. We remind all students of the importance of caring for our school property as part of our shared responsibility for stewardship.
Using the Toilets During Class Time
At StMM’s, we value every minute of learning time in the classroom. When students leave class to use the toilets, it not only interrupts their learning but also causes disruption to others. In addition, students are not directly supervised during this time.
For safety reasons, we strongly encourage students to use the toilets before school, at recess and at lunch. Toilets can be unsafe places during class time – nasty falls, slips or even opportunities for mischief can occur when students are unsupervised. Any child who has particular needs, that we are aware of, is supported by their teacher/s and teachers will send these students when required.
Of course, if a student does need to go during class, they are to ask their teacher for permission. This helps us ensure that students are safe and that valuable learning time is protected.
With so many students in our school, it is both reasonable and necessary that we set clear expectations. These expectations help us maintain a safe, supportive environment where learning is the priority.
We ask for your support in reinforcing this message with your child, encouraging them to use the toilets during break times whenever possible. Thank you for partnering with us to support both your child’s wellbeing and their education.
Thank you for your continued support and encouragement as we work together to make StMM’s a vibrant, caring and faith-filled learning community.
Kind regards,
Grace Carlo-Stella
