YEAR 6

FROM THE CLASSROOM
Smoking Ceremony
This week on Tuesday we had our Smoking Ceremony. After lunch, the whole school gathered on the basketball court. We do this for NAIDOC week and to clean the spirit and the soul. We said thank you to the sky and land. After that, we started the fire, and then the whole school took turns going around it, including the teachers.

What We Learnt about in Maths
In Maths this week we learnt how to balance fractions. Before our teacher explained it to us it sounded a bit complex, but when she carefully explained it and after doing a few examples it felt much easier to do. I like Maths because it feels like solving some sort of puzzle.
This is what we did:

What We learnt about in Writing - ‘The Compass’:
BREAKING NEWS!
This week Year 6 Students have reportedly learnt a new story about a stinky Jackaroo that hasn't showered in weeks, Gross! HOWEVER! The deeper they read the more the story came to life! At the beginning the Jackaroo named Frank stank as though he was a pile of RUBBISH!
Next, a magical compass was discovered in the spiky grass! And after dismantling - I mean dismounting his horse and inspecting the strange compass with italicised inscriptions of waves a miniature map fell into Frank's hand leading to water. At this point in time and space, all the students in the room gasped in excitement. “What’ll happen next?” “Will Frank take a shower?” “Can I go to the toilet please?” All these questions were left unanswered. UNTIL the final paragraph. Frank takes a shower in the billabong and kills a snake and most importantly learns a lesson. How Every Little Pain. Made Everything.
