YEAR 1

FROM THE CLASSROOM
Welcome back! It has been wonderful to see our Year 1 students return to school with such enthusiasm. They have settled into classroom routines quickly and have made a fantastic start to the term, showing a positive attitude towards their learning.
In Mathematics, students have been investigating 2D shapes and learning to identify and name them by their features, including the number of sides and corners. Through a range of hands-on activities, they have been sorting, describing and comparing shapes.
In Writing, we have begun our new 'Talk for Writing' narrative, 'Hansel and Gretel'. Students were excited to launch the unit by decorating and colouring lollies and sweets to transform our classrooms into the Gingerbread Cottage. We have also been learning the story through fun imitation games and actions before beginning our first writing toolkit, where students are learning how we can include the time of day and weather to create detailed and engaging setting descriptions.
In Inquiry, we have started our new unit, 'Schools Then and Now'. Students explored a collection of artefacts from the past, carefully observing each item, making predictions about its purpose and discussing how it may have been used. They then recorded their own wonderings, which will help guide our investigations as we discover how school life has changed over time and what has remained the same.
