A Word from the Principal

Ms Kylie Campbell

A warm welcome to our community

Happy Winter everyone!  I hope you are all staying warm especially on these cold mornings and sometimes days. Let’s hope we have some great weather for the upcoming term break and your children will be able to make the most of some time outside.

Upcoming work over the holiday break

I am delighted to share that our Year 6 Legacy Pavers will be installed during the school holidays. Each student from the graduating classes of 2025 and 2026 has designed their own personalised paver, which will be laid along the main footpath at the front of the school.

While the original style of pavers used in previous years is no longer available, we have found a suitable alternative that will beautifully complete the entrance pathway. These pavers represent more than just a physical addition to our school grounds—they celebrate the lasting contribution each student makes to our school community as they complete their final year.

The Legacy Path will continue to grow with future Year 6 cohorts, creating a meaningful record of our school's history and the students who have been an important part of it. I look forward to seeing the pavers in place and hope that our students will take pride in returning in years to come to see the legacy they have left behind.

Reporting to Parents against the Victorian Curriculum

School midyear reports will be made available to families on Friday, the final day of Term 2.  As outlined in the email that I sent home to you on 2 June 2026, some reports may not include written comments from classroom or specialist teachers due to current industrial arrangements. All mid-year reports will, however, provide information about your child’s achievement against the Victorian Curriculum and outline their learning progress to date.

Where some teachers have chosen not to include a written comment,  there will be opportunities for families to discuss student progress directly with teachers through the student led conferences scheduled for 27 and 28 July.  These conferences will provide an opportunity to discuss your child's learning progress and achievement. In addition, specialist teachers will offer separate parent-teacher interview times during Weeks 1 and 2 of Term 3. These interviews will be conducted independently of the Student-Led Conferences.

Families are also welcome to contact their child's teacher directly to arrange a meeting at another time if they wish to discuss their child's progress and achievement.

Please look out for your child’s school report which will be sent to you directly via your email through the COMPASS app.   Don’t forget that you should download a copy to your desktop so that you have a permanent copy of the report.  Also note that this is important for our year 6 students as the secondary school next year may not use COMPASS and you will lose access at the end of the year. Keeping copies is very important.

A huge thanks to Mr Saville who is our Assessment and Reporting Co-ordinator, and staff for their efforts in writing the student reports.  I read every student’s report before it comes home to you so I believe you will be happy with the progress to date.

Student Support Group Meetings and Student-Led Conferences

Thank you to the families who have participated in Student Support Group (SSG) meetings throughout the term. These meetings provide an important opportunity to discuss your child’s learning program, review the support they are receiving, and celebrate the progress they have made to date.

Next term, all families will have the opportunity to participate in our Student-Led Conferences. These conferences are a valuable part of our reporting and learning partnership, allowing students to share and reflect on their learning experiences from the semester.

During the conference, your child will guide you through examples of their work and learning portfolio, highlighting their achievements, growth, and areas of focus. Families will also have the opportunity to speak directly with their child’s teacher about their progress and learning goals.  The conference is an opportunity to celebrate the hard work and effort that your child has put into their learning and their achievements.

Weeden Heights PFA Glow Disco

A heartfelt thank you to our Parents and Friends Association (PFA) for organising another fantastic annual school disco! It was wonderful to see so many students enjoying a fun-filled evening with their friends, dancing, laughing, and creating great memories together.

I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to all of our families for their ongoing support of both our school and this PFA fundraising event. Your enthusiasm and involvement help make these community events such a success.

The PFA continues to do an outstanding job of creating memorable experiences for our students while also raising valuable funds that contribute to resources and opportunities across the school. We are incredibly grateful for their dedication, time, and commitment to our school community.

Camp Information Session – Whole School Camp

On Monday evening, we were pleased to welcome a number of families to our camp information session. School camp is one of the highlights of our year, and it was wonderful to see so many families in attendance, including a number of parents who have generously volunteered to support the camp experience.

During the session, staff shared important information about the camp program and preparations through a presentation, which has now been made available to all families via your child’s Google Classroom. If you were unable to attend, I encourage you to take some time to view the slides.

Staff also discussed practical ways families can help prepare their children for camp and foster greater independence. Suggestions included practising everyday skills such as regulating shower water temperature, using a knife and fork to cut food, and managing personal belongings and routines.

I am incredibly proud of what our school community can achieve, and our whole-school camp is a wonderful example of the unique opportunities that are possible in a school of our size. The sense of connection, teamwork, and shared experience that camp provides is something truly special.

We are all eagerly looking forward to the first week back next term when we head off to camp. A particular highlight will be Thursday, 16 July, when our entire school community will be together at camp—a day that promises to be filled with fun, learning, and lasting memories.

Final Day of Term – Early Dismissal

The final day of Term 2 will be Friday 26 June, with students finishing at the earlier time of 2:30 pm.

Families are warmly invited to attend our final assembly for the term, which will be held in the hall at 9:00 am.  During the short assembly, staff will present a number of our term awards and celebrate the achievements and efforts of our students.

Please ensure arrangements have been made for your child’s collection at the earlier dismissal time. If you are unable to collect your child at 2:30 pm, please book them into the OSHC program, After the Bell.

As we come to the end of another fabulous term, I would like to thank our students, staff, and families for their ongoing support and contribution to our wonderful school community.

I will be commencing seven weeks of Long Service Leave next term and I’m looking forward to travelling through the Red Centre and up to Darwin in our caravan. While I am away, I am happy to leave the school in the capable hands of, Nicole Rhumer who will be the acting principal.  Nicole has been thoroughly briefed on our school and will have the opportunity to work with staff, students, School Council, and the PFA. I know you will make her feel very welcome.

I hope all of our families enjoy a restful and enjoyable break.  Please take care, stay healthy, and look after one another during the winter months.  I look forward to hearing about everyone's adventures when I return.

Have a wonderful holiday, and I will see you all next term (in week 8!).

Until next time……

Kylie Campbell
