Trade Futures: Real-World Skills for Our Students
Our Stage 1 Integrated Learning: Trade Futures class recently enjoyed valuable hands-on trade experience right here at school. Students are developing fundamental construction skills, including patching holes and smoothing both internal and external edges on plasterboard sheeting.
Through these practical activities, they are learning to apply plaster compound in order to achieve a smooth, professional finish.
These experiences provide our students with genuine exposure to trades such as woodwork, building their confidence and equipping them with important skills for a variety of future pathways. Congratulations to all involved for your hard work and commitment to building real-world skills.
Celebrating Lucy S – Young Woman in Leadership
We are incredibly proud to announce that Lucy S, one of our year 11 IGNITE students, was recently invited to Government House, where she received a Highly Commended Young Woman in Leadership Award for 2026 from the Zonta Club of Adelaide Flinders.
Lucy attended the ceremony with her family and had the privilege of meeting inspiring leaders, including Rosie Egan (President, Zonta Club of Adelaide), Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC (Governor of South Australia), and Jenni Foreman (Zonta District 23 Area Director).
A special thank you goes to Councillor Kim Davis for nominating Lucy and sharing this wonderful achievement.
Lucy has also been nominated for a Women of Inspiration Award by the Zonta Club of Adelaide Flinders—another well-deserved recognition. We will share further details as they become available.
Please join us in congratulating Lucy on this outstanding acknowledgement of her leadership and contributions to our community.
School Captains Honour ANZAC Tradition at RSL ANZAC Youth Vigil
On Friday 24 April 2026, our school captains proudly attended the RSL ANZAC Youth Vigil in the South, held at the Eternal Flame Memorial Gardens on the corner of Flaxmill Road and Main South Road, Morphett Vale.
This special event, organised by young people for young people within our community, provides an opportunity to commemorate and show respect to all former and current service men and women.
The vigil ensures the ANZAC legacy continues to live on for future generations, fostering a deep sense of remembrance and gratitude.
We commend our school captains for their commitment to representing Aberfoyle Park High School and honouring our service personnel at this important community gathering.
Year 11 excursion to Urbrae Wetlands
Exploring the Urrbrae wetlands allowed students to see first hand how an ecosystem works and what factors that can be used to determine the health of such a vital system mitigating water runoff.
Below is an article written by one of the students, Milly W. who was on this excursion.
During our excursion to the Urbrae wetlands Vanessa guided our group to explore the ecological significance of wetlands and implemented strategies to maintain water quality. Within presentations we were exposed to specialised monitoring equipment and other sustainable practices. Dividing into groups, we investigated both aerobic and anaerobic influences within a biodiverse environment.
To investigate biotic influences, our group sampled water and examined macroinvertebrates where we identified a range of aquatic indicators within the wetland ecosystem. The presence of pollution sensitive macroinvertebrates reflect the balance of the environment, as the presence of only pollution tolerant species can reflect ecological stress.
We compared abiotic factors associated within environmental ecosystems including, PH, Temperature, Oxygen levels, salinity and phosphate concentrations. These variables are essential when regulating fluctuations in environmental activity and maintaining ecological homeostasis.
We investigated the impact of these fluctuations, both abiotic and biotic, on species distribution and ecological function, and then completed a holistic evaluation of the biodiverse system of the Urbrae wetlands.
This excursion was an insightful activity not only showing us how to evaluate an environments health based off their biodiversity, but scientific approaches to measure their health, and how they directly affect us.
