Visual Arts News

Hello Families,

The past five weeks in the Visual Arts rooms have been filled with creativity and fun as we’ve delved into Media Arts! Students from all year levels have been discovering how stories, ideas, and emotions can be expressed through images, photography, and film. Here’s a glimpse into what each year level has been working on:

Prep

Our Prep students have been developing their understanding of photo stories, learning how images can be used to communicate simple narratives. They’ve practised taking photos and arranging them in sequence using the stop motion app and produced it to their peers.

Grade One

Grade One students have been learning how stories come to life through characters and settings. They’ve created their own imaginative characters and designed the scenes and environments for their stories. Using the stop motion app and their growing photography skills, they brought their stories to life through pictures.

Grade Two

Grade Two students have been busy planning their own photo stories. They’ve come up with imaginative ideas, created interesting characters, and thoughtfully organised a beginning, middle, and end to ensure their stories flow smoothly from start to finish. The students used book creator to bring it all together and presented it in front of the class.

Grade Three

Grade Three students have been discovering how advertisements are used to persuade an audience. They’ve examined the key features of both video and poster ads, such as catchy slogans, eye-catching visuals, and a presenting voice. They were able to advertise a product or toy of their choice and use the Imovie app to bring it all together and present it in front of the class.

Grade Four

Grade Four students have been exploring photography and discovering how different camera angles and shot types can influence the way a story is told. Using digital cameras or Ipads, they’ve practised taking close-up, mid-shot, and wide-shot photos while discussing how each captures unique details and emotions. Adding these photos into the book creator app, students were able to create a story to present in front of the class.

Grade Five

Grade Five students have been delving further into the world of filmmaking. They’ve explored how elements like camera angles, lighting, and sound can shape the mood and emotion of a short film. Using digital cameras or iPads, they experimented with low, high, and eye-level shots to see how each can make a character or scene appear powerful, emotional, or dramatic. After completing their planning, students filmed their short movies, edited them in iMovie, and proudly presented their finished work to the class.

Grade Six

Grade Six students have been exploring how short films can tell powerful stories and convey meaningful messages. They’ve examined how filmmakers use camera shots, angles, lighting, and sound to create mood and emotion. Students have also been experimenting with different filming techniques and reflecting on how these creative choices shape the viewer’s experience. After completing their planning, students filmed their short movies, edited them in iMovie, and proudly presented their finished work to the class.

Over the past five weeks, our students have demonstrated outstanding focus and enthusiasm during their filmmaking unit. From Week 6 onward, they’ll continue their creative journey by returning to Visual Arts projects.
