Grade 6 Community News

Term 4 is flying by, and our Grade 6 students are making every moment count! The middle of the term brings a wonderful buzz across our classrooms, with students working hard, helping one another, and celebrating their final primary school experiences together. As we look forward to special events like Graduation and Funfields, we’re grateful for our final learning moments together!
Hats
All children are required to wear hats during recess and lunch playtimes.
Reading:
In Reading, we have wrapped up our poetry unit, where students explored, analysed, and created poems inspired by music, particularly the rhythms and emotions of blues and jazz. With the unit now complete, Grade 6 students are using this time to refine their poetry pieces for their Scrapbooks. They’ve been sharing their work with peers, performing their poems, and offering thoughtful feedback and encouragement to one another.
Writing
In Writing, our focus remains on our poetry scrapbooks. Students have been exploring a variety of poetic forms while reflecting on their primary school journey. In Week 5, they revisited their Grade Three selves through ‘I am’ poems, and this week they’ve been crafting their Grade Four poems, inspired by what they would want if they were Prime Minister. Each poem adds a unique layer to their scrapbook, creating a wonderful memory for the future. We encourage families to help by finding photos, awards, certificates or other special memories that can be included in their scrapbooks.
Maths
In Maths, we’ve been deepening our understanding of fractions, decimals, and percentages. Last week, students explored various strategies for solving problems related to these concepts. This week, they’re learning how to use related facts and rounding to estimate answers, building their confidence and flexibility in their problem-solving skills.
