PHSC Sports Report – Term 1: Sweat, Glory & Bragging rights
Term 1 has been busier than a PE teacher with a broken whistle! With 9 separate sports days scattered across iconic venues from MSAC to Coburg Olympic Swimming Pool, it’s safe to say our students have almost spent more time in runners and bathers than in regular classrooms!
A massive shoutout to our students and staff, who didn’t just turn up — they showed up with energy, enthusiasm, and only the occasional “creative interpretation” of the rules. As always, our students represented the school with pride, maturity… and some truly questionable dance moves between events.
Swimming Carnival – A Splash Hit!
We kicked things off with our whole school Swimming Carnival, where the weather was perfect and the costumes were… unforgettable. From superheroes to inflatable birds, the house spirit was alive and kicking (and screaming).
Our student leaders were outstanding, rallying competitors and encouraging participation like seasoned motivational speakers (with slightly louder voices). It was a nail-biting contest all day. Early on, Waa surged ahead, looking confident. But in true underdog storytelling fashion (according to the winners), grit, determination, and possibly a few extra ‘points’ led to the final results:
- BUNJIL – 240
- MUK-MUK – 238 (still checking the photo finish…)
- WAA – 231
GRRUNG – 215 (strong in spirit and sideline support!)
Interschool Sport – Taking It on the Road
Throughout the term, our students have been travelling far and wide competing in: Swimming, Tennis, Volleyball, Cricket, Futsal and Baseball.
Special mention to our swim squad, who have absolutely made waves — with several students progressing to the final stage before State Finals.
Meanwhile, our Year 8 Girls Tennis Team served up a brilliant performance, winning interschool sport and advancing to the zone finals next term. Game, set, match… and maybe a celebratory icy pole.
Individual Achievements – Future Olympians?
We’ve also had some incredible individual performances beyond the school:
- Violet Avotins Captain of the winning U14 Victorian Girls Indoor Hockey Team Highest goal scorer (opposition goalkeepers still recovering) - selected in the U16 State Hockey Development Team
Oscar Disseldorp Competing in both track and road cycling. Winner of the U15 B Grade Victorian State Road Championship Series (As a 12 & 13-year-old… casual!) Rumour has it he arrives to school faster than trams and buses.
If you know of a sporting achievement of one of students in community sport please let us know so we can celebrate their efforts.
Final Word
We couldn’t be prouder of our students. Whether competing, supporting, or just trying to remember where they left their water bottle, they continue to represent PHSC with enthusiasm and spirit. Bring on Term 2… and maybe at least one week without a sports day.
