Wellbeing Update

It’s hard to believe we’re already into Term 2! The wellbeing team has loved reconnecting with students who were here last year and meeting our new Year 7s, as well as getting to know students across all year levels. We certainly hit the ground running— even if our lunchtime groups took a few weeks to find their rhythm. We’re now happily up and running with Manga Mondays, Intersectional Feminism, Crafty Crew on Wednesdays, Game On on Thursdays, and our Friday group Rainbow Movement, and it’s been wonderful to see students connecting in these spaces. A special highlight was two of our wellbeing team accompanying the Year 9s and VM students to the NGV to experience the Westwood and Kawakubo exhibition—an inspiring day all round.
Alongside this, our weekly wellbeing posts have explored a range of timely topics, from staying cool, calm and collected in the classroom, to supporting others after distressing conversations or confronting content, and navigating news from the wider world that can sometimes leave us feeling scared, exhausted or really sad. We’ve also revisited the idea of control—there are some things we can’t control (other people’s feelings or behaviour, massive world events, or whether everyone will ‘get’ us), and others we can, like how we respond, how we contribute to our communities, and expressing who we are authentically. It may sound simple, but eating nourishing food, drinking enough water, moving our bodies and getting enough rest really do help us navigate what comes. If you want to make a real difference in the world, treating others (IRL and online) with respect and kindness is a powerful place to start—and that includes being kind to yourself.
