Learning in Auslan

Language Auslan is sharing the learning taking place in their class…

What has been happening in Auslan.

Preps have learnt to fingerspell the alphabet, which was a massive achievement by all students.  We can all now fingerspell our names and introduce ourselves by sign.

"My name? Then our name".

Year 1 and Year 2 have been focusing on their alphabet and making sure we are signing them on our dominant hands.  We are showing our classmates how we can fingerspell the alphabet and our names, and some of us finger-spelt some of our family members.

Year 3 and Year 4 have learnt all about iconic signs.  These signs are like gestures, and they look like what they mean.  Some examples are phone, basketball and sleep.  We then had to walk around using our signs to find our partner who had the same iconic sign by using the Auslan sentence "You have ………"  Wow, they made this look so easy.

Year 5-6 have been focusing on days, weeks, months and years.  This had us thinking, especially when Mrs Carpenter asked us to put ourselves in order from January to December for our birthday, but also dates.  We had to sign "Birthday when?" to others to find out where we were meant to stand.  All classes were able to get themselves into their spots.

Thank you for a great Term, you all did an amazing job with your Auslan learning.
