Beginning of Advent – A New Liturgical Year
This Sunday marks the beginning of Advent, a special season in our Church when we prepare our hearts for the coming of Jesus at Christmas. Advent is a time of hope, waiting, and joyful expectation, reminding us to slow down, notice God’s presence in our daily lives, and make room for Christ in our homes and hearts.
For us as a Catholic school community, Advent invites us to reflect on how we can bring light, kindness and compassion to those around us. Each candle on the Advent wreath symbolises our growing hope as we journey together toward the celebration of Jesus’ birth. During this season, we encourage families to pray together, practise small acts of service, and look for ways to share God’s love within our community.
Advent also marks the beginning of a new Liturgical Year. This year is Year A – the Year of Matthew. Throughout the coming months, we will hear the Gospel of Matthew proclaimed at Mass. Matthew’s Gospel helps us focus on Jesus as a teacher and guide, inviting us to live with integrity, compassion, and a deep sense of justice. His stories remind us to see Christ in one another and to build a community rooted in faith and love.
As we step into this new season and new liturgical year, may we walk together with hope, preparing to welcome Jesus into our lives once again.
Prayer Gathering
Tomorrow the Grade One students will share with us a prayer gathering service about ‘Hope’ as we begin Lent. The following week our Grade prep students will lead us in our final prayer gathering of the year as we light the second advent candle for ‘Peace’.
Thank you to all the families who have supported our weekly prayer gatherings this year. Your presence has been valued and appreciated.
End of Year Liturgy
We look forward to seeing you at our End of Year Liturgy and Graduation on Wednesday December 10th at 6pm in the church. Afterwards families are invited to share a BYO picnic in the school grounds.
