Wellbeing

Sunsmart

In Victoria, terms 1 and 4 are recognised as the terms students need to wear a broad- rimmed hat at snack and lunch break to protect themselves from the damaging ultraviolet rays of the sun.

Students have had over  5 weeks to find their broad rimmed hats. If teachers see students on the oval or other uncovered areas without a hat, they will be asked to make their way to the covered area where we have assembly. Please ensure your child has a  broad rimmed hat.

Breakfast Club

Breakfast Club is held every day between 8:45 and 9:00am  as part of the Ready to Learn program. Students have a choice of cereal, toast, milk or fruit cups. This term we are offering a different range of fruit as well. Encourage your child to try something new if they haven’t had it before.  This food is provided to us from Foodbank, which we a very grateful for.

Resilience

You can build resilience in children by fostering supportive relationships, encouraging problem-solving and independence, and teaching them to manage their emotions and view mistakes as learning opportunities. Providing a stable, loving environment, modeling resilience yourself, and allowing them to navigate challenges with guidance are key strategies.

Foster positive relationships and a sense of security

  • Be a role model: Model resilience by demonstrating patience, humor, and emotional control, as children learn by watching you.
  • Provide unconditional support: Show love and acceptance, and spend quality time together to build a secure foundation.
  • Nurture a support network: Encourage positive relationships with family, friends, and mentors through social activities, playdates, and community involvement.

Encourage independence and problem-solving

  • Let them try: Allow children to work through their own problems and find solutions with guidance rather than solving everything for them.
  • Teach problem-solving: Help them break down problems and ask "how" questions to encourage a proactive mindset.
  • Assign responsibilities: Give them age-appropriate chores to build confidence and a sense of capability

Teach emotional regulation and a growth mindset

  • Help them name feelings: Teach children to identify and express their emotions in a healthy way, such as using deep breaths to calm down when frustrated.
  • Embrace mistakes: Frame mistakes as learning opportunities to help them develop a growth mindset and encourage them to keep trying.
  • Promote self-compassion: Help them build self-confidence and teach them to be kind to themselves.

Nurture a healthy lifestyle and positive outlook

  • Encourage self-care: Ensure they get enough sleep and engage in enjoyable activities that support their well-being.
  • Promote optimism: Help them maintain a positive outlook by focusing on solutions and opportunities, rather than getting stuck on setbacks.
  • Incorporate play: Provide opportunities for imaginative and creative play, which allows children to safely express and process emotions.
