Daily Reviews in the classroom

Over the past semester, your child may have come home talking about Daily Reviews a routine this year our teachers have been developing across all classrooms. Daily Review is a short, focused part of each lesson that helps students revisit, practise, and strengthen key learning from previous days or weeks.

What is a Daily Review?

A Daily Review is a five-to-ten-minute warm-up where students actively recall information they’ve already learned. By practising this regularly, students strengthen the connections in their memory and become more confident and fluent learners.

Teachers use quick, engaging strategies such as:

  • Fast recall questions about recent learning
  • Mini-whiteboard activities where everyone shows their thinking
  • Quick checks of key vocabulary, number facts, or reading skills
  • Short writing or spelling reviews to reinforce prior learning

This approach is grounded in research from cognitive science and Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction.

What Does It Look Like in Our Classrooms?

Across the school, Daily Review looks a little different depending on the subject or year level, but the goal is the same: to make learning stick.

Some examples include:

  • In Mathematics, students might quickly solve a few equations or explain how they used a particular strategy the day before.
  • In Reading, students might recall the meaning of key vocabulary, identify a text feature, or answer quick comprehension questions from yesterday’s text.
  • In Writing, classes might revisit strong sentence starters or punctuation rules they’ve been working on.

Why It Matters

Daily Review not only builds strong academic foundations but also helps students start each lesson feeling successful. Revisiting previous learning creates a smooth transition into new concepts and supports all learners to feel capable and ready to learn.

Celebrating World Teachers’ Day

On Friday 7 November, our staff celebrated World Teachers’ Day  a chance to recognise over amazing staff here at Albion North.

The day was marked with a special staff lunch to show appreciation for the hard work, passion and commitment our teachers bring to their classrooms every day.  We are proud to have such a committed group of teachers who go above and beyond to make a difference to all the students at our school.
