What’s been happening in Visual Art?

It’s so hard to believe that we are in our final term of the school year! This term we started off with the exciting Noble Park Community Centre Art Show that showcased a selection of our excellent Year 5 and 6 artworks. We were able to display both 2D and 3D works this year and the display looked amazing!  Mrs Apostolakis and I were so proud of our artists from both campuses who were selected to display their works. I hope some were able to visit to see the wonderful displays from all the different primary and secondary schools, as well as local artists in our area.

I was lucky enough to go along on the Saturday morning and heard many lovely comments as visitors admired our SRPS display- so congratulations everyone!

What have we been learning about in the Art Room?

On the Heights Campus, we have spent the first couple of weeks completing our clay models from Term 3, by painting and varnishing them. Now we have been learning all about ‘Printing’.

The SLC students have been learning how to create Styrofoam stencils, whilst the MLC have been ‘nature printing’ by using leaves as painted stamps. Both these printing methods have produced some really effective art pieces which will be on display in the Art Room.

The JLC have explored printing with foam stamps and sponge dabbers to create beautiful peacock feathers, after listening to an Aesop fable called the ‘Peacock and the Crane’. And our fabulous Foundation students have learnt how to use lids and containers to ‘stamp print’. They created printed caterpillars following an introduction to the story ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ by Eric Carle. (Look out for a display of their gorgeous work outside Mrs. Vamvas’s room very soon 😊)

I am always amazed at the creativity of our wonderful students and so immensely proud of all the sensational works of art that come to life in the Art Room…and they should be too!

Next, we will all be working on some exciting construction and mixed media Art projects as we head towards the end of the year.
